7. Humbly asked God to remove our urges to shop, shop and shop.
That's hard if in the past, you've treated shopping as your "favorite extra-curricular activity." Unless I need something, I don't shop. The urge is gone. In fact I hate to shop for anything retail. I've always dreamed of having my very own clone of me - whose only job was to go out and do all the dirty work of shopping. Of course she would have to have to be frugal and have some money. It wouldn't work otherwise.
I love to shop thrift stores, antique stores, collectibles stores, 2nd hand or consignment stores - roadside stands, garage sales. But you even have to be careful about all that as well. Just because you are saving money, doesn't mean that is more money for you to spend on more "stuff". You keep "paying" that dangerous game and it could trigger that little shopping demon inside you and before you know it, you have relapsed. We'll find you in Macy's or Bloomingdale's, passed out and your credit cards maxed out.
So I just asked God or my Higher Power to REMOVE it all. Be prepared. When He does remove the urge to shop, shop and shop - it will become a chore. All of a sudden, you become willing to mend perfectly good socks, simply because you can't stand to drive around the parking lot - and stand in a long line - just to purchase a bag of new socks.
