The last leg of my garden table

I don't have any front photos of it - there it is to the right, near the gate.

Years ago, I "dumpster-dived" for this shaker-type table I dubbed, "garden table."

This was Spring - you can see the legs are getting worn; needs some TLC

I've had this table for at least 25+ years old.

It was pretty old when I found it. It's literally on its last leg.

I won't let it go.

Yesterday, I decided to paint it -

it was getting a bit too shabby looking and while I love shabby things, this was looking downright neglected.

I looked for some spare paint in the garage and found some interior paint that I used to paint my kitchen cabinets.

I will paint a second coat, sand it down and then put some water seal on it.

As I started to paint, it collapsed on me.  I sat there...

Should I just scrap it - use the wood for garden signs?

Should I at least TRY to revive it?

The legs have dry rot. I continued to slap some paint on all the pieces and decided within the next couple of days, I will put it back together. I do know, that this is the last leg of my garden table that I have loved for many years.

Do you have something old, that you love that everyone else thinks is junk?

I want to build myself a table that looks exactly like it when it's time to salvage it.
It's that Shaker-style.
Straight lines.

  1. Too bad about the table, but you gave it a good home for so many years! I have a sweater I bought back in 1990 when the knee-length sweaters and jackets were really in style. I still have it, 29 years old with some holes here and there and I LOVE it! I will never give it up, in fact I'm wearing it right now! :) If ever it wears down to too many threads, I 'll try to make a doggie sweater out of it! :)

    1. I've seen others use old sweaters to make winter pillows and even to cover a pumpkin. Yah there just are some things, you can't get rid of...

  2. I have a lot of things that many people looked at as junk and when i was done transforming them, those people quickly changed their minds!! I am curious as to what you will do with this piece now..

  3. New legs? Not NEW, but maybe find some in a thrift store. Lots of things around here would get burned without my knowledge if I didn't shamelessly have spies watching my husband. He removed the old cedar siding and replaced it and was going to burn the old boards! Lucky for me he is not quick on the clean up and I stowed those boards away in a forbidden (to him) area. I am still using them for various projects 3 years later!

    1. Oh I hear you on that. My husband has been known to throw my "stuff" out all because he doesn't see the potential. Just today I was looking for these little wooden picket fences that I had 20+ years ago. I bought them at Michaels. Then through the years I used them with plants. Now I want to use the wood and I can't find them. I bet he junked them. Grrrrrrrrrrr

  4. I bought a country-look bench for my front porch in the mid-90s. It's no longer sturdy enough to sit on, but does a good job of holding various decorations. However, as we're getting ready to downsize and that bench won't come with us. I had Hubby put it out next to the trash can, and hope someone sees enough potential in it to take it off the curb.

    1. That's exactly the kind of trash I love. Wish I was nearby, I'd take it off your hands.
