Fawn Fire 50% contained today.

There have been more details of the arsonist that was arrested. Thankfully she is still in jail. Believe me, that's a rarity here. What can I say?  - She's a loon. Our DA says she is a serial arsonist. Might even be an environmental terrorist. They also arrested 2 others for fires started on the Sacramento Trail - they were from Oregon. Alexandria was arrested up in Oregon 2 weeks ago for criminal trespassing. Arrested in Shaska Lake city for arson a day before she started the Fawn fire. She was in a Ph.D. program studying Environmental Science and Forestry. Things that make most of us around here, go "hmmm." Now though she states she is a yoga shaman.

OKAY!

Today we enjoyed cooler temps in the low 70's and we had sprinkles. We need a hard rain but then again, a hard rain = mudslides for those in the burn areas. We're supposed to heat back up into the low 90's in the next few days. Ugh!

Yeah, my arm went out on me yesterday - I threw the ball for Laydee and agitated my shoulder. It was sore. I rested it all day and this morning I was able to use it again, but am being careful. No more ball throwing for a while.

I've noticed something about me. When there is a crisis going on, I am the one you want to be around. I am cool as a cucumber. My husband (although he won't admit it) is a bit on the hyper side. Because I am not moving as fast as he wants me to, he gets perturbed at me. I refuse to get myself all worked up in a panic and pack every little thing. It's funny, "Things and Stuff" just aren't my concern. So we disagreed as to what items we should pack. I didn't pack photos because I have too many of them - in boxes and boxes. - I have them saved on the cloud, on my hard drive, and on my phone. If I were to list all the things I wanted to save, I'd never get out of the house. It would be just one more thing, or let's get that...

I packed an overnight bag with a couple of days' clothing, our animals and their food, medications, the computer, and important papers that are in a file carrying case. The husband was blowing my mind and confusing me by suggesting other items. I realize that I could live without the treasures that have been passed down to me. I'm sure not going to risk taking up more time, by packing things that my kids will probably get rid of anyway once I die. Plus what you pack, you have to unpack!

Have you ever thought, what you would bring with you if a fire or other fast-moving disaster was approaching?

The neighbor down the street had a U-Haul.

If I were to bring all my collectibles, I probably should just keep them in a box and never display them, so they would be ready to go at any given time.

Sorry, not sorry. Not going to live that way. Sure I might have some regrets - that's life. You just can't take everything with you.

  1. My friends that lost their home in the Paradise fire, they both worked for the same company in Chico. She left work and went back to their home when it was looking bad and told him to stay at work. She told me later she needed the drive time to think what she needed to grab, important papers etc. and knew if her husband came along they would be talking and worrying the whole way and end up at the house without a plan.

    1. Yeah, you don't need someone adding more to the plans - keep it simple and get out.

I also have friends that lost their homes in the Paradises Camp fire. They are now living in Roseville.

  2. Any environmental terrorist needs to be dealt with severely. It's murder, or at least, attempted murder to deliberately set fires with evil intent.
Living, and growing up in, a place prone to hurricanes, I've learned the ritual of what to pack just in case. For us it would be dog's, their medicine(s) and food. Then it's our prescription medications, guns, ammo, computers, cell phones and a few clothes & shoes. Takes us about 20-30 minutes to get ready. Like you, the photos and all are stored on-line somewhere and everything else we own is replaceable. Oh, and I'd probably put both motorbikes on the trailer and drive both pick up trucks away to safety. So far, haven't had to do that, but one never knows. It's best to be prepared.
    Y'all stay safe. Blessings. xx

    1. That is good time. Well you've obviously had experience to whittle it down. I've never had t do this until moving up here. In the bay area, we dealt with earthquakes and since they sneak up on you, you don't have time to get your important papers etc out. However when I owned my daycare in my home I was required by law to keep a earthquake survival can for each child. Plus my own family. Still, if the house was demolished from an earthquake, I would have to search in the pile of rumble to find important papers.

  3. That is a decision I hope to never have to make. I think identification papers like passport, deeds stuff that is in our safe...so our safe, and then just us. Scary to ever think about.

    1. It is unnerving to have to think about it. I've learned through friends who have lost their homes to fire- that while it may be a hassle at first, important document for the most part can be duplicated and replaceable.

    2. I'm glad things are improving and glad she is in jail. I don't understand why an environmentalist would want to start a fire. Praying your shoulder improves quickly!

  6. I hope I never have to make the decision of what to take and what to leave behind. I do have all the family photos scanned and saved on to discs and have given a set to each of the boys and have one set in the safety deposit box. I do need to gather the important papers together so if necessary we can grab and go.

I hope the penalties are high for deliberately setting a fire that caused so very much damage and could very easily claimed lives.

    God bless.
