These are our town's resident bald eagles. Miss Liberty and Guardian.
Aren't they beautiful?
They have a nest right off of Highway 44 - on a tree, called the Redwood Roost. There are 3 trees they like to roost on - The Christmas Tree and the Family Tree - all in the Turtle Bay area, right off the Sacramento River. There is a webcam and every year we watch them. After their fledglings leave the nest in late summer, they go away but they always return to their nest. We don't know if they "vacation together" or separately.
Photographs are from the Friends of the Redding Eagles.
Here are the 3 kids - Rebel, Glory, and Honor. Schoolchildren name them every year.
It takes a few years for them to start looking like bald eagles.
Here is a webcam photo of the three, being fed by either mom or dad.

Happy new week to you, too. V
DeleteEagles are beautiful. When we travel to the mountains or up into the north of our province we keep our eyes peeled for Bald Eagles.
ReplyDeleteWe do have Golden Eagles around here and are so excited when we catch a glimpse of them as well.
God bless.
Yes I would imagine you have quite a bit of eagles in Canada. They are a site to behold - the first time I saw one, it took my breath away and I actually got tears in my eyes. Never saw them when I lived in San Francisco or in a metro area.
DeleteThey are magnificent! I never knew young eagles were black.
ReplyDeleteYes they go through different stages when their feathers start coming in.
DeleteGorgeous birds! We don't see them here on the prairies, but I've been fortunate to spend some time on Vancouver Island, where they are often seen.
ReplyDeleteThat must be a real treat to be able to see them on Vancouver Island.
DeleteSuch beautiful, majestic birds.
ReplyDeleteYes they are - I can see why our Founding Fathers picked the Bald eagle over a Turkey...
DeleteLovely
