Getting prepared for surgery

I saw my surgeon on Friday. Apparently, I have like one tendon holding my bicep. He explained it all, drew some pictures and I promptly forgot all the details. Fortunately, my husband was with me and his engineering brain totally understands it and explains it to me.

Honestly, I'm not freaked about the surgery. It's the recovery period and pain. He gave me 2 prescriptions - one for an antibiotic and the other for Percocet. I must have heard wrong and dropped them off at Walgreens Friday afternoon. They called yesterday and said my insurance denied it. I probably should have waited, until closer to Nov 29 but I figured with the holiday, I am just getting a jump on things.  I sure hope I can clear this up. I won't do surgery if I have to do it without pain meds. Even if I only plan to use them for the first 3 or 4 days. I will also be getting a nerve block so I can have about 12 hours of controlled pain relief at home.  They will be releasing me the same day of surgery. He wants me to use ibuprofen -  rather than Tylenol for pain after I stop taking the pain pills. I'm a little nervous about that since I have a sensitive tummy. The surgeon told me approximately a 4-6 month recovery and if I do everything I am supposed to, I could be in the water swimming (or bouncing) in 4 1/2 months! That's my goal.

I bought a pillow wedge thingy for my bed. We don't have a recliner and I am not about to go out and buy one.

I also bought milk of magnesia and the bidet attachment is installed and YES, we both like it. I ordered my CBD supplement. It should be here today.

I'm thankful for my MediCare and my TriCare For Life through the DoD/military but there have been other expenses I didn't really count on. They add up.

Plus food.

We have to eat. I have a freezer full of food but the husband is a lousy cook. I could cook a few things to freeze but don't have much room. I'm praying my daughter-in-law Sara will bring me over some green chicken enchiladas she makes.  They are so good. Oh well, we'll get by.

  1. I hope all goes well with your surgery, Debby. That would be nice if you could get a little pain medication at the hospital afterwards for healing. Those chicken enchiladas look delicious. My Mom used to make the best enchiladas, and I sometimes crave them. I hope your sister-in-law is able to make you a few. ; )

  3. I've got a prescription for the super duper (can't remember the big number) ibuprofen. I munch on a cracker or slice of toast when I have to take one. Makes it easier on the tummy.
Seeing the picture of the enchiladas looks so good! Yum. I hope Sara can help out with the cooking. You'll really need to rest and recover. My husband had shoulder surgery a few years back. It took quite awhile to feel whole again. I pray all this goes well for ya.
Been praying for you. Get well soon!
    Blessings. xx

  6. Wishing you the best during surgery and recovery. It does not sound pleasant.
I'm sad to admit I've never eaten enchiladas. But that dish looks terrific!

  7. I think we are new friends? I just saw your comment on my post and I thought you were another Debby I know in California, and then realized you are new to me! So hello and welcome, and I will be praying for you as you have your surgery. I just had surgery to fuse my C5 & C6 vertebrae in my neck. I am doing well now and am very thankful. Sounds like you are having something more involved than that. Praying for your pain and healing. And yes, always take the ibuprofen with food. Oh, those chicken enchiladas are good. I love them too, as long as they aren't too spicy. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and will be praying for your surgery and healing. God is with you!

  8. That is a long recovery time. I can't imagine insurance not knowing you will need pain meds after an operation like that. You pay for insurance yet when you need it they always seem to try and find a loop hole.

I'm sure things will work out, but why do you have to have the hassle?

Best wishes on successful surgery and a comfortable recovery.

  9. Crazy that you cannot get your meds early for an upcoming procedure. As always insurance controls. I'm with the others those enchiladas look delicious!

  12. I hope this comment is in time. You will like the ibuprofen. Tylenol wreaks my stomach. I hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving and your surgery goes well. Putting you in my prayers.
