Creating and repurposing.

I have been keeping very busy - I've sanded down the redwood chair after I wood puttied the wholes, and power washed it and it's in the hot sun now to dry. I will stain it tomorrow.

A few years ago I repurposed a maple end table - I had painted it in a whimsical fashion as you can see in the above photo.  It had been my son's end table when he lived here and he didn't want it anymore and I wanted to have fun with it.

However, sitting outside weakened the joints that when I lift it up, it just fell apart.

So once again I rescued it, and  turned it into 4 different items.

1. The Drawer - Right now I have it on a plant stand, with some spray painted pinecones sitting in it. (as in the above photo) I have to look and stare at something for awhile before I get the big creative idea.  I could turn it on its side and use it that way.

2. Planter  (the 2 sides of the table which you can't see in above photo.)  I added 2 additional wood sides and a bottom. I painted it and am thinking on how to embellish it.

3. A sign - The table top. I just took it off, and will turn it into a yard sign.

4.  A chair for a potted plant to sit on. - With the table top removed and the drawer out, I cut down 2 of the legs, and screwed them in to make a armrest. Voila' - it's a cute little chair for a potted plant.

The chair is done except needs paint and embellishments. Hopefully I will get to that tomorrow.

Years ago I bought a very large mirror, that is in the shape of a watering can. So I used chalk board paint on the mirror, and would add a "garden message" to it but then the wind caused the mirror to fall and break. So I dug that out, and added 3 pieces of thin wood, nailed it to the back and will make a sign that will replace my other sign that has totally dry rotted finally - it says, "Moms Pot Garden." and in this space are potted plants or empty pots - it's a play on words as well. One of my sons asked me a few years ago, if that garden area was my "pot" garden and it stuck. Plus we live where pot grows commercially and illegally in the forests. As well in backyards. You can smell it. ANYWAY, just giving my yard personality.

The unsettled weather has moved on - and we're back to our regular sunny warm days. The afternoon sun always brings me back inside where I have been sorting through stuff in the back room. Still looking for those photographs.

I'm finding many things in boxes that I haven't seen in a couple of years - it's like shopping. A few things I want to re-do. I have a lot of projects if I don't lose my momentum.

Saturday I made a peach pie using canned peaches. It turned out great.

I'm keeping myself busy so I don't have to think of what is going on all around - I feel so bad for the young moms and their babies. Then there are the shootings - and people hating on each other and what's going on in Ukraine - and the possibility of Nuclear War, and then there are the gas prices, food shortages and inflation.

When I start to feel depressed, I have to do something. I am concerned. The future just doesn't seem too promising.

Saturday, the husband went with the Men's group from our church up into the mountains for some skeet shooting and a BBQ lunch.  He had a nice time. I had the whole house to myself, which I love and need. I cranked up my music as I sorted through the boxes and really enjoyed my day.

I hope you are enjoying your day - and keeping busy. As long as we keep on blogging, we can encourage each other as we go through, whatever it is, we're going to go through.

    1. Yeah much to my husbands chagrin. I don't like to throw away things that perhaps I could turn into something. I must take after my dad - when he would break something down, he would keep the screws, and bolts (if in good condition)

  5. Dearest Debby,
If all people would just turn into being more productive and creative; together with prayer!
Guess that is the problem of today's world. Religion is out and they live out the stupid movies that have been created and sold for decades now. NO MORAL, only violence and evil.
Both of us never ever had time for such Hollywood crap and we lived happily therefore.
It is also the most negative image of the USA, being exported and sold all over the world... That's NOT what the average good American lives like.
    Enjoy your repurposing!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  6. Those are very clever ways to refurbish that little table. I love being alone in my house. That way I can just fiddle around with no purpose, going from project to just sitting around with no one asking me what I'm doing!

    1. Exactly. I need that and fortunately my husband understands that I have that need. He's an extrovert and I'm an introvert. But it works.

  7. Very clever ideas you had for refurbishing that little table! I love having the house to myself. I can just fiddle around and take myself wherever my mind goes, and no one is asking me what I'm doing!

  8. Wow, you can really turn something old and falling apart into something new and creative. I like the whimsical look of the table. It sounds like it's special to you, as it belonged to your son. I enjoy hearing about all the crafty things you are working on, Debby. It's been warm here during the day, but still chilly in the mornings.

    Have a good week.

ps.....I know what you mean about traveling, and just wanting to stay home. It's my favorite place to be.
