lenticular clouds, red flag warnings, bugs with whiskers, and rodeos

Yesterday we had these lenticular clouds - they may look strange but are very common here.  They typically form over mountains but waves in the air can also be the cause.

We're windy today and we're having one of our first RED FLAG warnings.

Currently we are at 93 which is normal for this time of year - humidity is 11%.

It's 3:12 pm  and just came in from outside. I've been out all day - painting the chair and painting flower pots -  watering plants - I forgot to eat lunch. I'm bad though, I'm eating a homemade chocolate chip cookie the husband brought home from his Men's bible study.

Does anyone know what this is? About an inch and a half long. I found it on my wall next to the thermostat. I don't care for bugs with whiskers. Yesterday there was a wolf spider in our bedroom. It must be the hot weather.

I was sitting on the patio painting my little chair and I noticed a lot of those carpenter ants. I watched them and continue to paint but when the husband came home I told him he needs to spray around the outside of the house.

Tonight we are supposedly going to the Rodeo. Some guy at the bible study offered my husband tickets. But he can't get a hold of the guy. So are we, or aren't we?  It starts at 7pm.  It's Rodeo week here and there are a lot of dances and activities. Chili cookoffs, etc.

I don't care one way or another if we go or not  - Since living here it's part of the western ranching culture.

Most people don't know this, but San Francisco's Cow Palace is officially the 1-A district Agricultural Association, a State agency of the California Department of Food and Agriculture's Division of Fairs and Expositions. It has extensive stable and barn facilities for animal events, which are used for the annual Grand National Rodeo and occasionally for other events. A cattle drive thorough San Francisco city streets kicks off the Grand National Rodeo, and Horse and Stock shows.

Anyway the weather says it will be in the 90's - sitting there, in one spot baking in the sun - with the sun probably right in my eyes... Doesn't sound like much fun for me but sometimes you do things for someone you love even though you don't want to.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be done with my little chair - I am done with the redwood chair. I'm making a sign...that needs to be painted tomorrow. I'm enjoying myself but my arm is aching. Nothing serious - just muscles I haven't used in a while, shouting at me.

  1. I hope you show us the chair! Your bug is a centipede, I hate them. They can move so fast. Did you go to the rodeo?

  2. Aaagh - I don't like bugs either, especially hairy ones!
Hope you got to go to the rodeo and I'm looking forward to seeing that chair and the sign.

  3. It looks like a house centipede…they can get quite a bit bigger…The only way we found to get rid of them is with a dehumidifier. I enjoy your blog. 😊

  4. Dearest Debby,
Oh the weather can be so tricky.
Your house centipede is a good bug; eating spiders and cockroaches...
Wonder if you managed to go to that rodeo.
    Hugs,

  6. I just passed through Red Bluff on my road trip. First time there really. The rodeo sounds fun. Went to one many years ago, and it was entertaining. That bug looks unusual. I hope you found out what it is. I was surprised to find no bugs or cockroaches bothering us in the mountains. Only those pesky squirrels haha. And sometimes the woodpeckers peck under the eaves of my house, and it's annoying.
