The Rodeo

It was my first time at a Rodeo.
It was patriotic and they even had a prayer for all the cowboys, and animals before the rodeo.

It was quite touching.

I was surprised at how fun it was. I love animals and the bull riding was fun - I was rooting for the bulls. I noticed how each Bull has his own personality. They are quite stubborn and the rodeo bulls are smart - they come to compete so they get all rowdy in the pens just before the individual event.

Then when it's over and they've bucked the cowboy off, the strut around - some go right into the shoot while others are still prancing around for the crowd.

They are cute - with a lot of spunk!

The Chuckwagon race was really exciting. Very fast paced. A couple of Oklahoma cowboys tied for first place in the Bull riding event. There was a cowboy from Plant City, Florida. There were some from Idaho, Alberta Canada, British Columbia, Wyoming, Texas, Oregon, Louisiana and Missouri.

I read where the Rodeo brings in 8-10 million dollars into the local economy here in Redding. Wow.

And these girls' who barrel race - Wow, what fun.

It started at 7pm and we we sat on the shady side. Bleacher seats though - so my lower back started to bother me. I would turn sideways and my husband would let me use him to lean my back on. That sure felt good.

As it got dark the mosquitos started coming out - the Rodeo grounds are right on the river. I forgot to douse myself in bug protection!

We got to bed around 11pm which is late for us. I thought for sure I'd wake up this morning and not be able to move. I woke up feeling great.

Today was a cooler day - Right now it is a pleasant 81 but boy did we had the wind. I was on the patio painting and had to come in, the wind was blowing so hard. We had to raise up the roll up blinds, and tie the patio curtains to keep them from flying away. That's happened before.

I sure hope the wind dies down - I want to be outside but the wind is so hard it makes it not very enjoyable.

  1. What a cool adventure! And you got good pictures of it, too. I have never been to one, and like your stories about the bulls. I am not able to sit anywhere without a backrest for more than a few minutes. How wonderful that you were great in the morning!

  2. Dearest Debby,
That for sure was a very fun event!
Was your 5th viewer of the short video.
There is a lot of guts needed for all those things you mentioned.
One wonders if they did travel with their animals that far from all those states...?
    Glad you managed to 'sit'.
My back for the first time did not act up this morning. Nights have been generally well, only during the day, depending what I'm doing.
    Hugs,

  3. Yep Alberta is where most of the cowboys in Canada come from, though we do have a few that are born and raised in the western side of my province. Sounds like you had an awesome time. Darn mosquitos.

    God bless.

  4. I have never been to a rodeo but they sure look fun! As long as there is no animal abuse! I would root for the bulls too!
