Dollar Tree, Elvis and Take Out

Yesterday I had such a busy day - loved every minute of it. I kept busy - went to just one dollar tree since they had so much stuff than my regular, go-to one has. They're all different.  You can tell when you watch on you-tube, that the dollar tree hauls from around the country. I have quite a few favorite DIY dollar tree crafters that I try to watch - So with the husband away, I binged-watched some of my favorites.

ELVIS

I went to watch the movie ELVIS and I was not disappointed at all. The music was great - and they portrayed him very well, sticking to what I know about him, throughout the years from books and from what my mom would tell me she remembered. They just had to compact everything together so my only complaint is, that they left a lot of things out.

The guy who played Elvis - at first I had a hard time - for maybe the first 10 minutes but something happened - he really transformed himself into a pretty good Elvis impersonator. By the end of the movie, I had tears in my eyes...

I remember when Elvis died. Michael had just come home from the hospital. I gave birth on August 7 and he had to stay in. So I was feeding him when I heard and I bawled my eyes out. Probably was the baby blues but it really bothered me.

The first time I saw Elvis- was on TV - and I was around 4-5 years old and I remember it to this day, I cried because I fell in love. Okay I know it sounds strange but it's the truth. The music reminded me of my childhood - my mom being a BIG Elvis fan. They were the same age. I remember certain songs, my mom danced to, in the living room; still makes me smile when I think of it. We saw all his b-rated movies and liked them.  I haven't seen any since - were they really THAT BAD? My mom always told me she named me after Debra Paget - who eventually played in Love Me Tender with Elvis in 1956. I was already 2 years old, so I don't know how true that story was.

The movie was told from the eyes of Colonel Tom Parker.

My husband wouldn't have liked it - the audience was mostly old ladies like me - kinda funny as we were all walking out - that all those old ladies were once young, attractive, and madly in love with Elvis.

After the movie, I ordered take-out - came home, and enjoyed the rest of my evening.

It's a bit on the hot side today. I think the cabbage is done - the leaves are all crispy. The broccoli isn't much better. The beans, tomatoes, and bell peppers seem fine just parched. So I gave they an additional sprinkle this afternoon. We're only supposed to water on Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday; they can't go for that long without water. My newly planted impatiens look like they may not make it - and they are mainly in the shade.

Right now it's 104. It's actually comfortable and feels good on your bones, as long as you don't move. I don't even break a sweat.

The husband just walked through the door - smelly and dirty but very happy.

All in all, I wish I could have done more - but it went by fast and I thoroughly enjoyed myself and my furry daughters.

  1. Those are cute finds from the dollar store!
The Elvis movie looks good. I was at a youth convention when he died and they announced it there. Everyone was so shocked.

  2. Are you saying that different dollar Trees have different things? This is something I didn't know. Oh my, your HEAT!!! Glad you liked the movie! Tom Hanks is totally unrecognizable as Tom Parker!

    1. Yep. That’s why there are so many dollar trees. My town has at least 4 dollar trees and within a 15 mile radius, there are about 6 that I am aware of. It’s up to the discretion of that particular store’s buyers and store manager.

  3. The Dollar Trees around here never seem to have the stuff I see on Dollar Store crafters sights! It's frustrating! Isnt it nice to have some time just to yourself? My husband goes deer hunting every November for 4-5 days and I love that time to myself! I just go wherever my brain takes me!

  5. Oh, Elvis sounds good. I really want to see that. Glad you enjoyed it. You have a history with your mom and how you watched him on tv at 4 and 5 years old. I love that your mom danced to his music and you remember that. Oh, you got lots of goodies at Dollar Tree. We have Dollar General up here, and they are different. Dollar General is like a store, and it has so many things! It's my favorite place to shop, especially for holiday stuff. And your take out was a special treat to end the day with. I just had take out Chinese, and loved it! I'm so glad you had a nice two days all by yourself. You thought of many wonderful things to do, and it gave you a chance to take care of yourself, and that's important. : )

  6. Good to get a review of the Elvis movie. I am going to try to go and see it on the big screen. I remember a friend of mine told me about an Elvis concert he went to. Elvis brought a child from the audience on stage and it was a super moment to watch how kind Elvis was to that child.

The heat and bugs have got what little garden I made this year. My mother grew the prettiest and tastiest tomatos. Me, meah. I will keep on trying.

    1. I hope you get to see it, Ann. My tomatoes haven't ripened yet - I think they need more water than I can give them.
