Not much -

Progress -
Can't stop it.

My town is building a new super-duper Costco with a gas station.

And because it will put a traffic strain off the I-5, they are putting in a traffic circle.

I don't have an issue with traffic circles like so many do - I find they move everything nice and orderly.

My issue is that in a world where we are rethinking how we live - economizing, recycling, conserving water, and trying to be better stewards - why did we have to build a newer Costco when the other one was fine? They cut down a small forest of trees for the new Costco.

I don't get it - it's wasteful.

OUCH OUCH OUCH

When I was cooking dinner last night, I splashed up some hot grease on my chest and in between my cleavage. Immediately I placed a washcloth with cold water on it - burns hurt and I was hoping I could prevent it from blistering.

All is well - I have 4 red raised spots that do not appear to be blisters. They only hurt if I touch them or my clothing rubs against them.

I'm 68 years old and I have never done that! I've always been so careful. I will be even more careful NOW that I know what it feels like. Ouch.

Tomorrow Laydee goes to the vet for another test. The other baseline senior panel she took, came back really good. One more test and then we can decide when to start tapering her off the meds. She is doing well and has no anxiety which is amazing. We still have to get through next week and the 4th of July.

Navy texted me yesterday and sent me the packing list of what his mother-in-law sent them. A big package of meat from Omaha Steaks. That was awfully nice of her - since they are housing and feeding Sara's brother, sister-in-law, and toddler. The brother and SIL do not have jobs. I know that Navy has been concerned about the higher prices - and having 3 extra people to support.

I checked them out and right now they are having a 50% off sale with some pretty good prices. I no longer have my big freezer. Anyway, I can also go to one of the 2 butchers in town, get local beef or meat, and custom order.

Today I bought some pork chops for 2 meals, and some breakfast (round)  steaks we'll have for 2 dinners. In my freezer, I have 2 bags of frozen chicken breasts. (with bones) and another bag of frozen breast and leg portions. Not to mention a whole roasting chicken.

I had to buy some other stuff, so we don't start getting sick of chicken. I just wish at least one bag were boneless.

We're cooling off - it's 98 degrees/10% humidity. Supposed to get even cooler this weekend. That will be nice. The husband mowed both lawns. He's using the push mower since our lawn mower died a couple of months ago. We don't have big lawn areas anymore - just enough for the dog to play on.

Have a good evening and I'll see ya when I see ya.

  1. Cooler here again today, but that is because we got rain overnight.

I am glad that Navy's in laws are helping out a bit with food. Having extra mouths to feed at this time is pretty costly.

    God bless.

  2. My question is, what happened to the OLD Costco? Did they tear it down, and are building a new one where it had been? I'm so glad you did not get burned any worse, that was scary!

    1. The other Costco will be closing as soon as this new one is finished. Our area can only support one Costco. I find this wasteful.

  3. I hope Laydee's tests go well and you're able to taper her off her meds.
Glad to hear the grease that splashed didn't burn too badly. I recall falling against a wood burning stove and burning my arm. My b/f at the time thought putting salt on it would the best option...it wasn't! But thankfully it all healed up and I don't have a scar. But I'll never forget how painful the burn was.

    1. Oh my I bet that did hurt. Salt? I’ve not ever heard of that remedy.

  4. Costco rebuild doesn't make sense to me. The buildings are pretty much all alike.

  5. I've always used aloe vera for sunburns. You might want to check it out for your burn. I don't really like the traffic circles- it can get confusing in heavy traffic. I know what you mean, why build a new store when the other one is working? The Omaha Steaks sound good. Nothing like a steak and potato for dinner. That's good that it won't be too hot this weekend.....here's hoping.

  6. Cooling off at 99 degrees made me chuckle. :)
I am not a fan of circles. It is not the circle itself because IF people used them correctly it would work. I've seen so many people just stop!!
Does seem silly to tear one Costco down to build another. Maybe they could have just remodeled it.

  7. I agree it's wasteful to build a new building when an older one is good enough! Right before the pandemic started a company cleared a huge piece of land at a intersection about a half mile from our house. The plan was to make a industrial complex. Then nothing and still to this day nothing is being built on it. Who knows how long it will sit like that but the stupid thing is the other three corners of that intersection are for sale! I suspect greedy city officials looking for extra tax money!
