Just had to share -

I received some really cool news yesterday. I got an email back from the Pioneer Cemetery in  Milwaukie, Clackamas, Oregon regarding my 2nd great-grand-uncle who served in the Civil War. I had requested a photo of his grave and it came back that he doesn't have a military marker. So I wanted him to have one and had to search for his records so that they can request funds from NARA for a headstone honoring his service. It will take a few months to cut through the bureaucratic red tape. Once that is done, they want to hold a ceremony with the Sons of Civil War Veterans with honors. Since Portland is only about a 6 hour's drive, I wouldn't miss this for the world.

He served on the Union side for Tennessee - Company B, the 5th Regiment.

Anyone who enjoys the hobby of Genealogy would understand how totally cool this is.

Boy, lately I have been on a roll. Very satisfying!

  2. Dearest Debby,
It is almost exceptional that they do take the effort and time for searching out things!
I'm still waiting in vain for news from the Netherlands about my Granddaddy and Father–in–law's service during WWI...
One person promised to get back with me in a couple of weeks and all I got was her resignation message.
    Happy for you!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. It hasn’t happened yet - with me there’s always something that would keep this from happening. I definitely won’t be holding my breath.

  3. I'm so glad you are finding out about your ancestors and who they were, Debby. That's great that you want to attend this ceremony. You can enjoy this time in Oregon also. Heard it was such a pretty place to visit. I hope you find all the answers you are seeking about your family tree. It's so interesting to me also.

    1. Years ago, I assembled the family tree from old bibles etc. Now I am fine tuning and correcting errors.
