A March recap

Isn't that a special photo taken by the FORE team? (Friends of the Redding Eagles) Liberty and Guardian seem to be closer than ever - and were even seen mating. Guardian is also preparing the nest - could there be another clutch? That would be wonderful but it is doubtful. They're just doing what eagles do - Guardian misses caring for the nest...and incubating the egg with his mate, Liberty.

After the first egg was damaged - the second egg was all they had and outsiders were trying to come into the nest to get at that egg. A big fight happened.

Then we had snow - we normally never get snow. This March it snowed three times. It rained a lot as well. Not just rain but these big downpours that our already drenched land cannot hold on to. We were fortunate - we're a bit higher up.

I did my first Hodgepodge - then a 2nd one and a third one

I looked for Leprechauns - didn't find any!

I turned 69 years old - and made a huge decision - booked it and we're doing it. Just praying the weather holds.

And then the other day, it all ended when their only egg basically exploded. Gasses built up inside, they say.

What a crazy March we have had - I'm ready for what April has in store.

Have a good evening -

Debby

  1. I saw an eagle flying high above Chic-fil-a while I was having lunch yesterday. Such a majestic sight.

  3. Poor Eagles. I hope they do not mourn as much as we do when a baby is lost.

    1. The "experts" said they mourn a little; more like they are confused but it wears off. I don't know -

  5. So very sad to hear about the Eagle's last egg. I wonder if the freezing temps earlier had anything to do with it. Maybe they will try again. Keep us posted. I do believe that birds have a kind of mourning when they lose a baby or perhaps even an egg. I've seen how frantic they become when one of their youngsters are in danger or lost. I very sadly watched the Canada Goose couple search in vain for one of their young goslings for several days after it disappeared. It was never found and they eventually moved on over to the big lake with their three other offspring, but they actually came back here to our pond where the nest was to check again a few days later. Yes, I do believe the bird kingdom grieves for their children in ways we may not comprehend. So I hope the eagle couple will soon try again. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    1. It's instinctual in them as it is with humans. As to what degree they mourn, I do not know. The "experts" said they get confused but then move on.

  6. I feel so bad for the eagles. I love watching eagles flying and swooping. We have more Golden Eagles here, but there is the occasional Bald Eagle seen.

    God bless.

  11. March went pretty fast, and April has arrived. Still snow covering the grounds here, but the sun and rain has melted much of it. I like the Proverbs verse you shared, and I hope you have good April days, Debby. I forgot about April Fool's Day until someone reminded me. Too bad you didn't find any leprechauns. ; )
