On the edge of a storm and pets

Once again, we're going to be surrounded by a significant winter storm very soon.  Heck, we could even see some of the white stuff here! That would be fun and is what everyone around here is praying for. To go up to the snow is one thing, but to have it delivered to us, where we can look out our windows and see it, is another and it's rare. So yeah, we're praying for snow.

Crazy though - just the last couple of days, we were enjoying a warm Spring. Trees are budding, and flowers are blooming.

As I post this, there are strong winds whipping around - It wiped me good as I was driving home from bible study. I'm glad I no longer have to be out in this. I've already been hearing of downed trees, and utility lines.

I have to wonder, where will this storm go after it is finished with us?

Timmy

A friend called last night to ask us, if we wanted to take on their elderly parent's cat, knowing that I have always been a cat lover. My husband looked at me and I firmly said, "NO." I don't even want to see the cat - because then I will start second-guessing myself. I tend to have a weakness for cats and dogs but especially cats. The best we could do was offer him our pet carrier and encourage and guide him as to the best way to make the cat adoptable. It always hurts my heart, when someone has to give up an animal. I already pay out medical insurance for my one cat and one dog which keeps going up and up every year.

Timmy

Back in 2012, my husband brought home this cute cat - 1-year-old and my son named him Timmy. We had him 6 mos and then, a coyote got to him. Broke my heart.

I adopted this dog - Daisey Mae - who was hours away from being euthanized. She was an elderly dog but absolutely the sweetest dog. I was blessed to have her in my life for 2 years.

This little booger is my Susie; named after my best friend, Susie who passed away suddenly at the age of 59. If there is such a thing, she is an "alpha cat" She wants to be the only one. She has accepted the dog and I don't want to push her.

Yes, I have a co-dependent relationship with my animals.

Laydee

Right now I am content - with the 2 pets I have. It works. To bring another new pet in, could muck up the cohesiveness we have as a "family."

They both bring significant joy into our lives and I can honestly say, they make us laugh out loud, several times a day.

So what happens when it's their time to cross over the rainbow bridge?

I've said before, right after, that I cannot do this again...but within a few days, I realize that hole in my heart can only be filled by an animal to love and spoil.

Both Laydee and Susie are in good health and just turned 9 years old. No doubt Laydee will go before Susie. It's hard for me to even say that - I get tears in my eyes.

Oh, it's a curse to love animals as I do.

Have a great evening -

Regards,

Debby

  1. We are getting that snow storm tonight and tomorrow and are expecting 8-12 inches of snow here in the Salt Lake Valley. I know what you mean about pets. We love kitties and have had several but after the last one died, I said no more for a while. It is just so hard to lose a pet. We also travel quite a bit and it is hard to take cats along. I hope you are having a good week. See you again soon!

  2. Timmy is so cute. Look at those eyes! And your little Susie is darling. That was really nice to name her after your best friend who passed away. Mia has really taken to Cleo, and they soon become part of the family, don't they? I have to say that I'm a dog person. Have had dogs all my life. Yes, we are supposed to get snow here soon. I love it, but it's not fun to drive in. I hope some snow comes your way too, Debby. ; )

  3. Our Simba also likes to be the only cat! They always say if you have a cat, you should get another to keep them company. But that simply does not work for some cats! They are as different as people, and some just like to be loners.

  5. It looks like there will be snow in Oregon Wed and Thurs. I enjoyed the tad bit of snow ❄️ Feb 14th. May get more this week. We have a cat that comes over to our house to get petted 🐈. Have a good week.

  6. I have two remaining cats. I always say no more pets when they are gone but I may feel differently later. The thing is though, each one broke my heart when they died so I don't know how much more my heart can take! I hope your neighbors find a good home for that cat.

  8. Dearest Debby,
What a sweet kitty your Timmy was and what a fate to be attacked and killed by a coyote...
Yes, my heart also melts and I tend to run a zoo but we cannot and don't want any of our pets to outlive us! Like you mention the sad story above about elderly people having to give up their pet.
Right now I'm immobilized as I got T–boned by a car yesterday. Ended up for 5 hrs in the ER and then they let me go due to my two fractures not being open ones...
Tomorrow at 8:45 AM I will see my orthopedic surgeon the one that saw me in 2018 with my double closed pelvic bone fracture. A dear friend will drive us there as I'm too worried about my Pieter being out on the Interstate and driving in city traffic, it is a one hour drive.
So tomorrow I will know more... my body is so bruised up and swollen. Hematomas and both legs fractured. Knee immobilizer on my right knee but it is way too big!
Life is full of surprises... but I'm alive and this will pass as well but I cannot bike for quite a while and that is sad. But after taking a nap this afternoon my BP was back to normal 119/56 instead of over 200 like yesterday but that was from pain. I cannot take painkillers due to my severe kidney stage... Prayers work as our Greatest Physician will help us through the storms of our lives.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  9. We had an ice storm here. Would rather have snow. Hope you do get the white stuff. We have had such a mild Winter here that I cannot even complain. We rescued 2 kitties. Now we just have a dog and a kitty. Our kitty just did get a mouse in our house the other day, so we were proud of him. Living close to state land we have al kinds of critters here. Some I like, others I don't. Janice

  11. Just super cold here and no snow as of yet. You can keep it down in your neck of the woods, though usually your storms from Colorado hit us with great regularity.

Your pets are gorgeous. After our Shania passed over the Rainbow Bridge, we decided no more pets. We had her for 21 years and know we would never get another as well behaved and loving cat as she was.

    God bless.

  12. I love each one of them for sure. We lost our dear Disco - well almost a year now. So I do understand and glad you are an animal lover!

  13. We used to have two litter mate cats but lost one at the end of 2019. Jackson is now 20 years old, and I say when he crosses the Rainbow Bridge we won't start over again with another pet. Will see what happens when that day comes.

  14. Susie is so cute!
We had a huge ice storm here yesterday and everything is closed - schools, county buildings... I'm lucky to work from home! Hope you got a little snow and enjoyed it.
