Snow Day

I can't tell which eagle this is -

the second egg is fine and there won't be a third this season.

There's an eagle nesting under all that snow.

I woke up to this - we got about 6 inches.

It snowed all morning till around 11am.

Will the little pink rose make it?

Hmmm, I'm sure my impatiens are gone.

The almond tree was heavy with snow, and the husband went out and knocked it all off before it broke a branch.

Queen Anne Palm probably is a goner -

The little finches love the snow - they are out there chirping and playing...

so cute to watch them.

For some reason, I really like this photo.

I think of my Grandma from Scott County, Tennessee and it's my memorial to her. She made the best biscuits and gravy. My dad taught me how to make buttermilk biscuits and gravy almost as well.

There were certain foods that my dad made sure I knew - Pinto beans and ham hocks, fried potatoes in a well-seasoned cast iron skillet, cornbread, biscuits and gravy, fried chicken, pork chops - all the things he liked.

He wanted to make sure I knew my Tennessee "food" heritage, I guess.

Laydee is so black I can barely see her eyes - She's so happy she smiled for me.

She loves the snow and bugged us this morning to go out and play.

The husband went to his part-time job. He couldn't wait to get out in it. Then around 10am, he called me to say he locked his keys in the van. So I had to bring the spare for him.

After I dropped off the keys I went the long way home, just so I could see all the snow.

I didn't have any issues until I tried to get back into the garage - ice on the driveway and we're on a slant. So I just parked it and will wait till later in the afternoon, to pull the car back in.

Most of the roads have not been plowed yet - H44 and H299 were closed I had to take to the streets.

Navy and Sara were home today and he sent me a photo of his snowman.

I know you all think we're silly - but this is BIG NEWS for us.  While I was driving, I saw snowpeople all over the place. Children out playing.

People are out walking in it.

Dogs playing.

So tomorrow is supposed to be a sunny day - and then we're to get another arctic storm - Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. And there might be snow and that would be a first. Usually, we will have snow like this every 2-3 years and then that is it.

God Bless,

Debby

  1. We had the ice storm and so glad we did not lose power. We were prepared though with wood inside and candles out. Your snow pics are pretty, but I am over the snow for this season. I hope the eagle chicks hatch. Laydee does look like she was having fun! Janice

  3. What a lot of beautiful snow!!! I'm happy for you to have it to enjoy for a while. Just be careful driving in it. I love that Laydee enjoyed the snow too! What fun! Love the snowman, and the finches, and I do love that pictures of the biscuits and gravy sign...and the story about your father and the good southern cooking. Sounds right to me!! Love it. Have a safe and wonderful weekend. Stay as warm and cozy as possible!!

  4. Those poor eagles - I'm thinking they are working overtime keeping the eggs warm.
I think pretty much everyone loves the first snow (or only) as it is a lot of fun. Watching the video of Lydee in the snow is so sweet.
Enjoy it while it lasts - I'm sure you appreciate the moisture.

    1. IT was fun and there were hundreds of snowmen in my neighborhood. So cute to see the joy on the children's faces. They all had a blast!

  5. Dearest Debby,
No doubt your Impatiens will not take this cold and snow—they grow in Indonesia in the tropics as native plants.
Laydee sure loved all that snow—so playful.
Having a slant driveway covered in ice is very tricky.
Indeed this is great news and what a SIGHT!
Smart to knock all the snow off the almond tree.
Yes, we care for our plants, shrubs and trees like we do for our pets!
Big hugs and thanks for your love.

  6. I don't think it's silly to be enjoying something you don't see very often! It does look pretty but I agree, your inpatients are probably goners! We had a heavy, wet snow a few weeks ago that pulled the branches of our pine trees down so far I was sure they would break off! Luckily the snow melted and they returned to their original position!

    1. Many of the bushes that were flattened by the heavy snow have sprang back up. So far so good.

  7. Wow that is a lot of snow for you. It is so pretty. We haven't had much snow at all this year, but there is still March and April yet so who knows!

  8. You got snow! We got a pretty big one on Thursday and Friday. I am always amazed when I open my window and see the lawn full of the white fluff. It's beautiful to me. Laydee looks like she's having a blast in the snow. And that photo of the snowman your son sent you is the cutest. That's sweet that you think of your grandma with that sign, and making the best biscuits and gravy. Your wheel barrow is filled up! And that first picture is so pretty. In fact, these are all great photos, Debby. I saw some bird tracks in the snow, and it made me laugh. I hope you get some more snow soon. There's nothing like it.

    1. We sure did! You're like my friend up in Alaska - she is still in awe when she opens her drapes in the morning and sees the snow and many times she sees a moose or two as they seem to like her yard.

  10. So glad you are enjoying the snow. Me, well I can hardly wait for winter to end and we get rid of all of ours. Fun for the first half of the season, then nope, it can leave any time.

    God bless.

  11. You sure did get a lot of snow overnight. Is that eagle cold? Wow how nice it is protecting the egg.

  12. We have had cold weather in Oregon lately. Worse in Portland where they got 10 inches of snow and icy roads. Below freezing at night this week and a bit of snow that has finally melted. May get snow on Sunday. Will see. I had 3 plants loop over as it's too cold and needed water which I did Fri evening. They look good now.
