What a difference a day makes

Our poor eagle - covered in yesterday's snow.

Source: FORE

Today is looking brighter -

The atmospheric river we were supposed to get, either went south of us,
is stalled or petered out.

As I was driving into town, the snow on the mountains that surround us, are breathtaking. Today is a nice sunny day - in the 50s and warm when you sit in the sun. I sat out on the patio earlier - it felt nice to take in all that natural vitamin D.

While I enjoyed it - I am looking forward to warmer weather. We're just not accustomed to this kind of weather  - I don't have real "winter" clothes. I usually wear just a sweater when I go out - I've never liked wearing a big bulky coat. I only have the one big wool coat that I have been using this winter. It had saved my cold behind,  a few times this season.

However, there is more rain in the forecast.

I remember years like this - where we come out of a drought, with record rainfall - then it goes back to normal for a few years. We needed it - and Shasta Dam is nearing the top-off level but they are saying it will be May before it is full. The Oroville Dam might be letting some water out today -  to keep the valley from flooding.

We have dry summers - and that is normal for us. We don't get those summer rains, like the rest of the country. It's just been years since we've had a rainy season like this.

Be careful what you pray for - you just might get it.

Have a nice weekend - any plans?

Take Care -

Debby

  1. I know you definitely need the rain. I am keeping my fingers crossed that dams refill.

    God bless.

  2. What a shot of the poor eagle. You can only see her beak! Wonder why she does not shake all the snow off?

    1. Maybe because he's not as cold as we think - with all those feathers and down.

  3. Dearest Debby,
Guess the Eagle's feathers and under coat of fine dawn protects them from cold and wet circumstances.
Our goose down duvet with flannel duvet cover keeps me warm.
Your area surely depends on lots of rain/snow before summer heat sets in.
Had a painful night and a kind of set back from yesterday being on my walker probably too much.
Shower and shampooing of hair felt heavenly after RN friend/neighbor removed that nasty knee immobilizer. But it had to come back on...
Rosa from our Church came to help with laundry and changing bed linens.
It is very hard for me to remain in low gear instead of being hyper and active.
Our youngest kitty (14) Speckie girl got taken to the vet before Pieter had his breakfast.
She refused to eat and was hiding under the oak armoire... No good signs.
Turned out she had an infection and kidney problems.
She's at the Animal Hospital as I cannot care for her and Pieter often explodes...
Since a couple of days Pieter's hearing aid quit working.
Did arrange a driver for him on Wednesday to go to Trader Joe's, dry cleaner and Atlanta Cycling to drop my bike off, having it checked if the intricate system and 9–gear system got damaged.
Don't want to ride it ever again as it will remind me of my worst pain ever.
Instead I want to trade it in.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    2. Her kidneys are the problem and she got a bacterial infection... Did want her to stay there over the weekend as I can't nurse her and Pieter got more than he can...

  4. With the Great Lakes not having the ice coverage this year and this includes our mighty river, the water levels will decrease here this year. We are getting our snow now instead of December and January. A weird year for us as well in Michigan. Janice

    1. Some places have really had a record winter - while others didn't. Maybe it was just our year - that only happens once ever 50 years.

  5. I don't like to wear big bulky coats either, that's why I wear layers when walking! :)
The weather for sure has been very unusual all over.

    1. I wish it all had started in December because I am getting antsy for spring and gardening and getting out. Not only has it snowed but it's been awfully cold and we're not used to that.

  7. We are getting some rain here right now, but not nearly enough. I am praying for more rain, but all things in moderation! LOL. Poor Mrs. Eagle! She certainly had a cold blanket over her! Actually maybe it insulated her from colder weather...but still...the sunshine looks much better! Hope things settle down for you all up there with all this weather you've been having. The main thing is to stay safe and as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. I know I hang on to one winter coat as well...even though here we rarely need it, but one never knows what might come up!! Take care my friend.

    1. Up in Alaska, eagles are plentiful. It gets a lot colder there than here so they can handle it.

  9. Glad you are getting the moisture you need, though I'm sure you'd be happier without the snow at the lower elevations. I'm sure the eagle is happy the snow is melting.

  10. Oh my gosh, Debby, I was reading your comment on Ginny's blog, cause I just left one today, and I just started laughing, cause when I got my ears pierced, my mom did it the old fashioned way too, and she numbed my ears with ice, and took a needle and did it on her own. I still have the pierced ears today, and she did a great job. Just wanted to tell you my story, cause your story sounds similar, and we had that in common.

Yes, I hear there is more rain to come. Oh, that poor Eagle is covered in snow. I hope it melts for the precious bird. Speaking of snow, we got hit really hard this last week, and we have been buried in it. Spring will come later for us.

    1. You too? Oh that's funny. That was the way it was done back then. Now, the adults doing it would be charged with child abuse.
