This and That

It is Fall here, meaning we go back and forth from summer to fall. One week we have Fall and the next we have Summer. We had some nice rain over the weekend with cooler temps but today it is 86 and by the end of this week we'll be in the H90s. Usually by mid-November, the seasonal dance is over.

It was nice though - to be able to sit on the patio and watch it rain.

This proves we had an awesome rainy season and a new one has begun, Oct 1.

We went to the movies on Thursday to see The Blind and went out to dinner afterward.

I've been going going and going the last few days. Saturday was an all-day event for me. I was part of the meal preparation and service which was hard work but fun. We did a big salad bar - with Costco rotisserie chicken chopped up, Tuna salad, hard-boiled eggs, and garbanzo and kidney beans - we had tomatoes, peppers, red onions, green onions, sliced avocados, sliced apples, blue cheese, Roquefort cheese, and a cheese platter with swiss, cheddar, and white cheddar. There were walnuts, almonds, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds, We had cut up French bread and had crackers with seeds along with various salad dressings.

Best salad I've had in a long time.

That was a lot of chopping and cutting but afterwards, seeing the huge spread of salad on the counter was rewarding.  We didn't have to clean up.

I will volunteer for this again next year. I met so many nice people.

I did come home, got my jammies on, and crashed for a 2 hours nap.

Everywhere you go, there are pumpkins. I don't think I will be buying one this year. I haven't even started decorating yet. I did buy a pumpkin pie and we already devoured it.

🍂 Fall Cleaning 🍂

Tomorrow we have a carpet repair guy come in to stretch our 7-year-old carpet in the living room. We have hardwood floors everywhere except the LR and our bedroom. The guy told us he would charge us $100 to stretch the carpet. That was so low that I will have him clean the carpet as well since the furniture will all be moved out. The cleaning of just the LR won't be that high. I can clean my bedroom carpet myself.

I love clean floors. So I am thrilled. Not thrilled with the husband and I moving our furniture. We have a dolly and those rollers and moving pads. We'll start moving some this evening and a little in the morning. We both have Bible study in the morning and the appointment is for noon.

I love my dog but she runs and my husband plays with her on the rug and no doubt she is the one who made the carpet shift. So he will just have to get used to paying for this. We'll probably replace the carpet after 10 years or so. They don't make carpets like they used to.

My husband is still waiting on his appointment - The civilian doctor contracted by the VA is supposed to call. So he will have to call them.

He also had an ortho appointment on his foot - he broke it a couple of years ago (the toe) and it was on the same foot he already had a documented service-related injury on. So they approved him for new shoes with a special insert in them. Yesterday we went and he picked out these nice shoes. The VA will pay for 1 shoe/boot every 6 mos and the guy told us these shoes last 2-3 years. So we're pleased about that because no way could we afford these shoes with the insert.

I will say his tummy is better but it's not like it used to be and still needs to be checked out.

I'm sorry I haven't been commenting or visiting - just too busy but I hope after tomorrow I will settle down and come by for a visit.

  1. I never heard of stretching a rug! Does that mean he will shift it from where it had moved due to the running? You have a very nice patio. We have had the same kind of weather here, too. Fall then summer alternating.

  2. It felt like summer here the last few days, but I think that's the end of it for us. Cold and rain is coming.
Your big salad sounds so good!
That is a very good deal for carpet stretching. Having them cleaned is a nice bonus.
Glad your hubby is feeling better. Now the VA needs to get him in!

    1. Yeah I am happy about that but we still need to get to the bottom of it.

  4. Busy days and sounds like a good salad. We still have the same carpets in our house. Not able to get any new flooring. I hope we can soon as we should do it. Now that I am not working there's less money to spend. But we make do with what we have. I hope your hubby gets help from a dr soon. Glad he got a new pair of shoes to wear from the VA. I want to get a new pair of shoes as well but will see what happens. One I have been wearing over a year isn't making my feet happy and it's hard for me to get shoes I can wear except in a few stores. Not cheap either! Have a blessed day!

  5. Watching the rain can be so relaxing, I am not a salad eater but Tim loves his salads as does Tasha. It is spring here which means one day it is stinking hot with the air con going followed by a somewhat cold day. Waiting for a doctor to call can be so frustrating

    1. Spring and Fall are fickle seasons - at least that was what I was taught in school.

  6. So this weekend was your Day in Service (but I think you called it something else)? The salad bar sounds like a great idea.

    1. I saved my mums and they don't do well in the hot summer but are blooming now with indirect sunshine. When it gets cooler, I can move them into the sun.

  8. We had to restretch our rug in the mobile home a few times. Not so much any longer since the boys have grown up and left.

That sounds like an awesome salad bar, but lots of chopping in order to get it ready to go.

    God bless.

    1. Yes it was. The hardest was breaking down that chicken. We had 8 chickens!

  9. Wow, look at that huge white pumpkin! This salad sounds incredible. I think people either like or do not like blue cheese dressing. My dad loved it, and ever since then, I like it as well. I haven't heard of the movie, The Blind yet. Yes, I heard Redding got some rain - I'm glad for you. We got just a little, but I'll take it. : )
