Touching Bases and Catching Up

Last week I was under the weather which means now that I am me again, I have a lot of catching up to do. I scheduled my DMV exam for Friday, Feb 2.  I have been taking practice exams and I pass them all but I still don't trust myself. There are some items I need to learn.  It's like I have a mental block. (Is that old age?)

It's not that I am sick about this exam - but it's like it's sitting on my shoulder and every once in a while, I turn, and it's there - reminding me that I need to get it done.

What a NAG!

My husband is off to the Falls today. Brandy Creek Falls in the Whiskeytown National Recreation area. Another mild day before the rains and cooler weather arrive. It is a 50 ft waterfall - reaching the upper chamber of the Falls, is like being in one of nature's cathedrals.

I'm looking forward to his photos.

He plans to be gone most of the day so that is exciting for me. I enjoy having the house to myself. Even though we have adapted to his retirement, I still cherish the times when I can have the house to myself. I can do whatever I want or do nothing at all.

Catching up

Yesterday after church, they had a fundraiser for the high school group. They served us soup. 2 types - Minestrone or Chili. It was good. We stayed behind and as they cleaned up, they gave us 2 more take-out containers of soup so that is what is for dinner tonight.

We have a substantial faucet leak - on our outside faucet that needs to be fixed now before it damages the house.  We also have a leak in the shower, behind the wall. Not good. That means they will have to go into the wall to fix it. What a mess.

My dad always told me I should marry a plumber!

All I can think of is the expense. My husband could do it - but he does not like plumbing issues. He can tackle almost anything. Simple plumbing is fine but having to cut through a wall - is just not something he is comfortable with. Plus an outside wall. This is a pending issue and I wish I could just pretend it doesn't exist. But it does...

Last week, my BSF fellowship leader asked me if I would consider leading a study next year. It was nice that she asked, but I'm going to pass for next year. We'll be studying the book of Revelations and I don't feel qualified. The year after, perhaps. It was nice to be asked.

I've got some other things I need to get done - folding the towels and unloading the dishwasher. Make a couple of important phone calls that I do not want to do. Finish my bible study homework -

Oh, I did a little grocery shopping earlier. Fun fun.

Thanks for stopping by - I really do appreciate it.

Take Care

Debby

  1. Oh gosh, do you know who you will hire for the wall leak? Who did these cool paintings?

    1. The watercolors are my photos and I used an app on my phone that turns it into a watercolor.

  2. I have always wanted the gift of painiting/drawing/ ART... did not get those genes. I wondered if they were your paintings. they are in a way and that is a way i can do art too. I get 1 hour 10 minutes, mon//wed/friday when my house is free of hubby. he goes to swim at the y. other than that he and the TV are here 24/7... makes me a little crazy.

    1. I used to paint years ago - something I haven’t done in decades. The only painting I do ate the walls and furniture!
The watercolors are my photos- the app does the rest!

  3. I hope you get your leaks fixed. We had a leak inside a wall one year, and luckily I was home. I called my husband and he thought I was crazy. I shut the water off and he came home and we had to cut a hole in the wall to repair it.

  4. I am glad you put the info at the bottom about the watercolor photos...they are beautiful and I was going to ask you about them when I saw that really small fine print at the bottom of your post. LOL. I love that! Oh, I don't love that you have plumbing issues. That is NEVER good! Praying you will find a reasonable and skillful plumber to do the work for you. Wow. Oh, studying the Book of Revelation...we all want to, and yet it is so difficult to find anyone willing to tackle it. Even my hubby with his Doctor of Ministry degree and 40 years of ministry does not like to teach it...there's just so much there that is subject to "speculation" and whatever doctrine a person has been taught...pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib, all that stuff, and everyone has different opinions. All I know is I am praying, waiting and watching for Jesus to come and take us home to heaven any day now. It could happen at any time, and we all need to be ready! That's the most important part...be ready to meet Jesus, and then you don't have to worry about all the rest of the stuff that will be happening! I would love to take a course in Revelation again just because it would be good to get a better understanding of it all, especially in light of our current world situation. Okay, I enjoyed your post and your pictures and everything! Hope you have a wonderful rest of your week.

    1. And all of what you said is why I wouldn’t lead a group. Although technically I wouldn’t be teaching - just facilitating a group of women but still, I would feel grossly inadequate.

  5. I love having the house to myself! I just flit around taking myself where my brain tells me without having someone asking me what I'm doing! Sorry about your plumbing issues! I don't think my husband would be comfortable with cutting through a wall either!

    1. Hey I do that, too! Flit about the house. It was an enjoyable day and I always get more done when he’s not here. 🤔

  6. Best wishes on your DMV exam.

Plumbers are so difficult to find. We just phoned one who said he can come round on 16 March NEXT YEAR because he is so busy. I asked him, "Morning or afternoon?" He said, "Afternoon. I am taking the car to the garage for maintenance in the morning!"

    God bless.

Ken can do anything and has done plumbing but does not enjoy it and is so happy he is NOT a plumber! :)
Loved the water colors of your photos!!

    1. My husband hates working on plumbing. He is constantly having to fix and maintain the automatic sprinklers - and the pump for the waterfall. He does it but hates it.

  9. I dread the thought of a leaking shower as we would need to cut through the wall as well. In fact it would be the living room wall.

Lovely paintings of the falls. Hope you can share your Hubby's pictures.

    God bless.

    1. Well maybe not...as it turned out we didn't have to cut through the wall.

  10. I'm so glad you are yourself again!
I love your photo/paintings. Very cool.
I also love having the house to myself. I wouldn't want it all the time, but it's nice once in a while.
My husband can also fix most anything, but cutting into an outside wall wouldn't be something he would like either.
Good luck with that driving test. You have to do and and pass with flying colors so I feel better about it when I have to do it this Fall. :)

  11. I like your water color art. I don't understand about having to take a driver's test. We just get to renew them here without taking a test. Hope your leak gets fixed cheaper than what you think it will be.

  12. A soup fundraiser sounds like a really terrific idea. I love soup but especially at this time of the year. And good luck with the DMV test. I'm sure you'll be fine. I feel for you with the plumbing/house stuff. I'm in the same boat and not at all looking forward to getting the work done (well, mostly for paying for it!). I hope you have a wonderful week. Thanks for visiting me at Marmelade Gypsy!

    1. You never know how much it will cost since hiring a plumber is something we don't do - as it was, it was very inexpensive and for that we are grateful.
