Make a footstool out of water bottles???? No Way!

I shared this on my Facebook page last year - what a keeper that needs to be kept and filed away for that things-to-do list...

Now this is recycling!!! Make a footstool out of plastic water bottles. Cover and voila you have saved many bottles from the landfill.

NOTE: I checked online to find out WHO to give the credit to. I could not find it. I'm sure they will find me and when they do I will UPDATE you all and give credit where the creative credit is due.

Bloom where you are planted

To keep my mind off the depressing news, I try and find projects. I love to cook but am limited these days with ingredients so once again I have to be creative. (and cheap) I love to decorate, but these days I shop second-hand stores and look to embellish old broken down pieces of treasure.

For years now, when a favorite shirt, blouse, dress, or skirt gets old if it is of material that I just love (and can't part with) I save it. For a future pillow, some table napkins, placemats, gift bags - whatever I yield after it is cut up. I've still not made that quilt yet.

Tomorrow I have a rare Wednesday off so I am thinking about getting out my sewing machine and scrap material and sewing up some simple curtains for my dining room and kitchen. Right now I have those vertical blinds (this used to be my parent's home) and they loved them. They serve a purpose, especially in the hot summer when it gets to 105+ - just don't look all that fashionable. Very sterile looking. So what I plan to do is make some drapery that slides over the blinds and to the side, when the blinds are open. I can live with that!

Of course, we had planned to replace that sliding door with french doors - but as with everything else, that is ON HOLD. And I can't see myself just sitting here, feeling trapped by our situation. I have always believed that one should BLOOM where they are planted. And for this season in my life, I am planted in living life economically challenged.

I plan to embrace it if it kills me.

cleaning wood floors - mop covers

So many times when we are forced to make lifestyle changes because of loss of job, debt, or under-employed we give up our standards. Maybe it's a little like depression - you feel why to bother clean? All the stuff you have is junk anyway. Let me say, that is not a good or productive way to look at it. Keeping your shabby cottage clean, is still something you must do, if only for your sanity. Who wants to be depressed and live in a dirty hell hole? I sure don't!

Cleaning your place, dusting, and making it shine can do wonders for your spirit. One thing I have a thing for is floors. I have wood floors in my entryway, dining room, and kitchen. We had planned to complete the wood floors down the hallway and only have them in the bedrooms and living room. But now that is on hold, due to finances. I love the rich beauty of wood floors but boy they get dirty, especially when you have pets! They go outside, get their paws wet and muddy and track it in. Seems I am always cleaning the floors.

Today, while cleaning my floors, it donned on me, that I need some more of the terry cloth mop covers - but they can be so expensive. IDEA: Since I don't like to throw anything out (because I am constantly thinking I may need it) I have some old bath towels that are clean, but a bit on the ragged side. I use them to wash and dry the car, dry the dog, and for spills around the house WHY NOT, make my own custom terry cloth mop covers?

So that is what I plan to do.

Things are not so bad if you can find ways to keep going and utilize your God-given talents to make something. Do you have any ideas you would like to share?
