The spring is starting to uncover what is buried under the snow after our record winter up and down the state.
In Tahoe, the bears are looking for food - due to still being covered in snow.
Come on California Bears - we know that is just an excuse for you to continue to walk into convenience stores and have a beer and Cheetos.

Like...why are these vehicles stuck in the snow?
Why did their owners just abandon their cars?

Are these just old cars on someone's property?
Do any of you who live in the north have to dig out like this?
|
Did they run out of gas and break down during the blizzard?
This reminds me of lava...
|
I wonder if these vehicles will still drive?
Or has the weight of the heavy snow, dented or caved in parts of the body?
THE TOTALS
A total of 710 inches of snow this season which is 178% of the average of 400 inches.
The previous record was 707 inches for the 2016-2017 season.
Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe received 570 inches
Kirkwood, half an hour south of Lake Tahoe, was inundated with 708 inches
Some ski resorts will be skiing into July this year.

Here's the webcam view of the Kohm Yah-mah-nee visitor center at Lassen, yesterday. Still a lot of snow. Lassen is to the east of us. (about an hour)

To the north of us, (about an hour) is Green Butte Ridge up on Mt Shasta. This was yesterday.
I've mentioned this before in previous posts - I believe these cold winds we have on occasion are a result of coming off those mountains and down to us. This is purely my own speculation. We are surrounded by 3 major snow-capped mountain ranges. Come on, it has to have some impact...
Maybe in the next couple of weeks, we'll drive on up and get a take on the snow level - firsthand.
We're sunny - blue clear skies but still not to our normal temperatures which gives me time to get into my closet and start pulling out my lighter-weight clothes and pack away my winter clothes. Usually, by this time, I'd already done this.
Just looking at these photos makes me shiver...
Until later,
Debby
Good grief! The last photo is so stunning as well. So WHY and HOW did all these cars get so buried?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea.
DeleteYou saw my car was buried in snow, and I had to shovel to get out. But this is an excessive amount of snow, and looks like dirty snow, which happens weeks after a snowfall. Those poor cars and their owners. Sunny days here lately, but it's still very cold in the mornings, so here in the mountains, we just don't know if Winter is over or not. My neighbor said they had snow in June one year.

It's up in the Sierras - so yeah it is an excessive amount of snow. Around Tahoe/South Shore.
DeleteI think cars in the Upper Peninsula here get buried in snow like that but most of them dig them out instead of leaving them to freeze! I don't know what damage it will do to a car and I hope I never find out! Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteThose vehicle must have broke down and the constant blizzard and snow they had, could not get to them in time. That's my guess...
DeleteNothing like that here as it doesn't snow here
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me kknow that - I wondered if Austrailia got any snow in the higher elevations - so no snow skiing.
DeleteWow! Those cars are crazy. We get lots of snow here, but it's the norm so everyone is prepared and it gets plowed. I haven't seen cars buried like that.
ReplyDeleteI know, crazy
DeleteMaybe the cars broke down and they had to leave them. Since the snow is so dirty perhaps the snow plows went by a few times and covered up the cars.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I am thinking
DeleteWhile we get a lot of snow, I've never seen a car buried for an entire winter. I suspect, if they still will run, there has to be some damage to the frame or engine. One thing I have seen is an old beater car drived or towed out onto a lake. Then the local community runs a raffle with the winner being the closest to the date the vehicle goes through the ice. Yes, they do remove the vehicle, but I can't imagine even a short time in the water is good for the environment.
ReplyDeleteWe've had our (hopefully) last blast of winter over the past two days. I'll be so happy when the snow is gone.
Tahoe really got dumped on this winter - those vehicles probably broke down.
DeleteWe got almost an eighth of an inch in Jersey!
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty funny. Even where I live we had some on and off snow for a few days - all total about 12-15 inches of snow. WE all enjoyed it here because it is not the norm.
DeleteOh yeah. Many is the time we have had to dig out. Hopefully this has now ended for the year or at least until December.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
My guess is those cars are undrivable. Here in Michigan we have never had that much snow. Your snowy mountains are beautiful! Janice
ReplyDeleteBlizzards will do that to cars...wind and snow and then melting snow and ice and more snow on top of it. It happens, but not here in Florida, thank the good Lord! I don't mind a little snow but I couldn't stand a whole winter of it, so that is why we are here (among other reasons, like this was home to begin with). Those snow scenes and mountains are beautiful. I would be careful driving near them due to avalanche concerns, but I'm sure you all know what and when and where to go or not go. I'm glad it is starting to warm up for you. It's time!!! I hope you will have a pleasant and beautiful weekend.
