Rainy Days

The back patio - It's not pouring rain but it's been consistent. A little goes a long way and we don't want a deluge of rain to the burn-scarred areas, and the potential for mudslides - going from one disaster to another.

Soggy Lavender that I should have harvested when it was time and forgot.

These are my Twin Cedars in my front yard. It started out as one Cedar tree and then became a twin. I especially am fond of them because my Dad planted these 20 +years ago. He dug them up from his mountain property in Shingletown -

I love how the bark looks when it is wet.

Just a little rain and everything greens up. That VINCA is starting to grow. I hate that stuff. It takes over everything.

Our backyard hill -

I know I know, I'm strange. I like wet pavements.

I forget what those purple flowers are - they are drought resistant -
next to agapanthus foliage.

Sweet Gum starting to turn.

58 degrees and cloudy. I love it.

Today I dropped off my paperwork at the surgeon's office for my upcoming cataract surgery.

Bought a 5 lb bag of potatoes. We don't eat them too much in the summer months. I'm craving some mashed potatoes, and some potato soup. My DIL told me there was a turkey shortage. Sure enough, the pickings were slim.  Best to secure your bird asap if you are one that has to have turkey. I told her I would be fine if she made her chicken enchiladas - they are so good. I'm always dropping hints to her about those enchiladas. The older I get, the less I like turkey. I'd rather have a roast chicken.

The husband is taking the night off from work -

  1. I do like a good rainy day - once in a while anyway. :)

    1. We don't get much rain here so when we do, we all love and totally appreciate it. Hopefully it is drowning out the fires.

  2. The wet bark of cedars is so interesting. Looks like scales.

    God bless.

    1. yes they do look like scales. It's like all the trees and plants are rising up again, after a long hot dry smoky summer.

  3. It's been raining every day here too. I like rainy pictures, especially the flowers with raindrops.
I like your twin cedars too, and they really are special since your Dad planted them.

    1. Thank You, Mari. Yes, the things around my house that I have, bring me pleasure because I can point out who they belonged to and their story. And anything that has my dad in it, is priceless. He was the best!

  4. Such a pretty area. And isn't it lovely to have rain again! Yay! Hope it doesn't rain too much.
Funny thing, after "eating keto" now for almost two years we've both lost our taste for turkey. Don't like it anymore. I'd much prefer something chicken. Maybe Cornish Game Hens again this year. Yum yum.
No shortages of any kind here, yet. Gasoline, though, is now $3.29 a gallon! The poor are gonna suffer terribly. Elections have consequences.
    Blessings.

    1. I prefer chicken to turkey. I actually love beef but not too much of it. Gas here is close to $5.00 a gallon. Of course we aren't paying that all the time - we found a cheapy station that is charging $4.00 a gallon for our van that we drive less often and then we have the electric hybrid which we love.

  5. I try to pull up the vinca (and Euonymus) whenever I see them sprouting in the common areas of our community.

    1. That hill was once a vinca jungle - that's what we do, is pull them up. They die out in the summer when it gets into the triple digits but as soon as there is rain they start coming in. They're like ivy.

  6. Your photos are beautiful and I like wet pavements too, smiles. Sigh...I am afraid, friend, the supply shortage will get worse. My husband bought a small 14 lb turkey the other day. We decided to go small and will keep the trimmings just as small this year. Inflation is going to be rough around these parts, sigh.

    1. Yes I am starting to notice it here - food costs are outrageous.

  7. I like wet pavements too. In fact, when it's not raining, I'm usually washing
my walkways down. It was interesting to see the rain around your area.
We got so much that my front yard was flooded with it. It was a sight.

If you don't like turkey as much anymore, you can try the Cornish Hens.
Those are really good. I cook them sometimes at Thanksgiving instead
of the big turkey. But I do love turkey and the leftovers. : )

    1. I actually enjoy the leftover turkey more than after it comes from the oven. roast chicken is good, too.

My backyard flooded and in some low spots in front but it went down. A sump pump is a good thing to have.
