Tangle Blue Lake and Costco

Tucked into a handsome basin in the northeastern corner of the Trinity Alps, is Tangle Blue Lake. Navy just got back from backpacking with a buddy and sent me some photos. - knowing I cannot hike this anymore.

Doesn't this look peaceful? No other people around.

It is interesting to note that the natural mountain lakes are full. Whereas the lakes and reservoirs that are man-made or managed by humans are almost dry.

It gets cold up there in the higher elevations -

a morning fire with a cup of coffee gets the blood pumping.

REGARDING COSTCO

I did some checking and it was Costco that wanted to move to a bigger facility and install the gas pumps. They went out and bought this huge parcel of land, for 7 million and basically told the city that if they didn't approve it, they would close shop.

It will be the anchor store for other commercial stores and restaurants. Like I said, I don't want this area to end up like Sacramento or the bay area. The other Costco I go to is closer to us. This is also off, 1-5 which will bring in more business.

The building they are in now - will sit empty until they either tear it down or find another retailer to move in. It won't be ready until 2023.

Yep, you can't change progress...

  1. That lake and the surrounding area is stunning. More building and tearing down buildings is not so much...

  4. Love the mountain photos...such a beautiful area. Love the campfire too. I can imagine it feels good at night up in the mountains. I hate to see so many new buildings, etc. come into the pretty natural areas. I am not much for "progress", as the world sees it. I love peace and quiet and nature abounding. I try to stay away from the hustle bustle of the cities as much as possible. Just not my "cup of tea." I enjoyed your pictures so much. Have a blessed and beautiful holiday weekend.

    1. I grew up in or always around a city (San Francisco) and started appreciating the country and rural areas on my trips back to see my parents family - Dad was from Eastern TN and Mom was from Dayton Ohio. My best summers were back there. I loved it and used to beg my family to move there -

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate what cities have to offer - I miss the art museums and the cultural parts of a city. But it's not what it used to be. I am content living here - and it does unnerve me to see the changes in the 14 years we have lived here. Still not as bad as the Silicon Valley when we left.

  5. Dearest Debby,
How interesting your mention about the natural lakes being full versus the man–made lakes not.
People try to 'manage' things but our Creator seems to do it better; the natural way.
WISH we would have a Costco closer to our area. Still have to drive 2 hr 15 minutes (without traffic jam)...
A good sign to see such development, that means jobs and a good economy.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. That is true and in spite of everything, there is a lot of construction going on around here.

  6. Yes, it's still chilly in the mornings in the mountains. It was in the 50's when I got in my car. This lake is so pretty. It's nice that your son got to visit there, it looks peaceful. These are great photos from your son. I love the campfire one. ; )

    Happy July days Debby.

  8. What an incredibly beautiful place to hike and enjoy the scenery. If you can't do it yourself, it's wonderful your son shares the experience with you through the photos.
