Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

1.What do you love about your life right now?

My husband and I are both retired and enjoying our freedom. We don't have to answer to anyone -  and I'm grateful for our good health thus far.

2. March 26th is National Spinach Day...are you a fan? If so, how do you like yours prepared/served?

I like spinach.

I enjoy a strawberry spinach salad with a poppyseed dressing.

I've been craving a dish I haven't had in a while—a San Francisco classic, Joe's Special. It's a scramble made with eggs, ground beef, onions, garlic, spinach, and sometimes mushrooms if you ask. It's classic diner food created by Original Joe's in San Francisco.  It's funny how, as you get older, you start craving some of your old favorite comfort foods.

3. In this current season would you say you need to spend more time looking inward or that you need to get out of your head? Tell us why.

I naturally tend to be introspective. For several years I have been working a 12-step program. These steps, along with my faith in God, help me stay grounded and prevent me from being someone I don't like.

4. Are you following the 'March Madness' madness? (That's US college basketball in case you're out of the loop)

I’ve heard of it having sons but I do not follow "March Madness" I don't feel as if I am "out of the loop" if I’m just not into it.

What's something that feels like actual madness to you right now?

Lately, we are noticing more crime - you  always have to be aware of your surroundings. There are many new faces in our area - that are not from around here.  Big city crimes are encroaching into the rural areas because they have places to hide, and there are no consequences.

5. How will you celebrate the Easter/Passover holiday this year?

The adult kids will work, and the husband and I will attend church. We’ll play it by ear. (See #1)

I want to attend some  events coming up this week at the church that hosts the Job bible study I attend.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

First of all, I have missed being here. I think I have bitten off more than I can chew but I am determined to finish and schedule those A-Z posts. I have seven left. I'm totally losing steam.

I wanted to share some updates with you. I finally agreed to be a group leader in BSF.  I have decided to take this step and just leave the outcome in God's hands.

Char totalled her car. There were no injuries, and no other vehicle was involved. She ran into a 30-inch wide concrete base of a pole - in a parking lot. She is now waiting to hear what the insurance will pay out and she has her caseworker handling it all for her.

A dangerous inmate just walked away from a Conservation Camp on Monday evening. This morning, they captured him downtown. Big happening! The last two nights, helicopters hovered in different areas.

Last evening our church hosted the Consul General from the Israeli Embassy in San Francisco. The embassy brought in their armed security, just in case. It was an informative evening and we were all pleased we had no protests.

Okay, so this shall do until I am back here - in April. I'm sorry that I haven't even had the time to visit blogs. Thanks for just being here!

  1. Yes to strawberry, spinach salad!
We aren't sports watchers so no March Madness here. :)
    So glad Char is ok.
Very cool that you had the Israel General Council there, and I'm thankful there were no protests.
Blessed Easter to you. See you in April!

  2. I am happy to hear from you. I am also way behind in keeping up with everyone, so I didn't even realize you weren't writing. Sorry about that. I just have difficulties in finding the right time to read and write. I loved your answers. The programs at your church this week sound very interesting and meaningful. We do have a Good Friday Service and of course Easter Sunday. We are having our Easter dinner with the kids on Saturday because Rose has to work Sunday afternoon (Home Depot). I guess I need to get a move on because I really am not ready. That meeting at your church with the Israeli Consul General must've been interesting. Also, glad Char is okay and no serious complications, of course totalling a car is bad enough, but thankful no injuries. Take care and have a blessed and wonderful Easter!!

  3. Wow, your random thoughts show how much is going on around you. Probably a lot is going on around all of us that we are not aware of. Hope things work out well for Char with the totaled car. Those detailed events during Holy Week sound interesting. Happy Easter to you. Christ is Risen!

  4. I add spinach to many dishes, so we eat it almost weekly. As of now, we have no Easter plans. Work may be the issue for the weekend. I am spending a lot less time on any social media, and blogging less. I get more done, and more "me" time around here.

    1. I’m not on social media - a real time waster in my opinion. Time goes by fast enough!

  5. Hi Debby, I kind of feel like you. That is why I am combining my post. I wrote about all my groups at my blog. Your spinach dish sounds really good. My husband and I just signed something to put on a ballot to go after the petty crimes. This mob crash into stores with no consequences is madness! Thanks for the update. Take care and Happy Resurrection Sunday!

  6. So sorry about the wreck! But how wonderful that she is alright. I do not follow March Madness either. I never knew about the word Tenebrae, what a good word to know!! So good to see you today!

  7. I really enjoyed reading your answers. I don't know if I've stopped by your blog before, it doesn't look familiar but when I saw all the California pictures on your sidebar, I popped over to your About Me to read more. You are a very courageous woman having gone through many trials and come out as you are, enjoying retired life. I lived in California off and on; my Dad was stationed in San Francisco (Presidio) when I was young, we lived in Chico and San Jose when he was in Vietnam, and then again in Chico when we moved back to the States after living in England for five years. To date, living in Chico is the longest (12 years) I've lived anywhere. Army brat, Navy wife, we've moved around a lot! Looking forward to reading more of your posts. I'm still thinking about the A-Z so I'd better make up my mind!

  8. Great answers, sorry to read that Char had an accident, hope there is no issue with the insurance paying out. Here are my answers for this week.

What do you love about your life right now?

How much at ease I am with my life despite how hard the struggle is.

March 26th is National Spinach Day...are you a fan? If so, how do you like yours prepared/served?

    Nope never liked spinach.

In this current season would you say you need to spend more time looking inward or that you need to get out of your head? Tell us why.

Nope don’t need to get out of my head, I like living in my head.

Are you following the 'March Madness' madness? (That's US college basketball in case you're out of the loop) What's something that feels like actual madness to you right now?

    No nothing about sport.

How will you celebrate the Easter/Passover holiday this year?
    No don’t have any plans.

    1. Jo-Anne watching you improve in spite of your condition is commendable. You’re doing awesome. Educating yourself about Parkinson's and accepting what you can’t change is a healthier way to approach it than denial.

    2. Thank you for this comment it helps me feel better, I do try not to let this condition get to me, I can't make it go away so I have to learn to live with it

  13. I'm happy to hear that you are both doing well. Enjoy! Yum on your spinach salad, sounds delicious and Joe's special sounds good too. Yes, the crime scares me and nothing is being done. We need protection. I hope you are able to attend those events. I am glad to hear that Char is okay. You take care.

  14. It's been so crazy here I forgot to sign up for the A-Z. I may still participate though as it always kick starts my blog. Most of my traffic comes from the usual followers anyway. I haven't written a single post, but I sometimes do okay just winging it lol. We'll see. Happy Easter to you!

  17. I look forward to the day of retirement. Oh, strawberry/spinach salad sounds good. I liked your answers. I can understand about the crime. I live in a small town and a regular came into work and said there was a drive by shooting (random) and it went through her house and hit a spot in her bathroom. She was so thankful she wasn't in there.
