The "Quiet" of the Morning.

Here you go Sheri.

This morning I sat in the yard - turn up your volume and listen to my birds. I had to stay behind the fence because they're shy so you can't see them as well as I would have wanted. You sure can hear them!

Recognize any specific bird sounds?

In the late afternoon, around dinner time, that bird feeder is the place to be if you are a feathered friend. For the most part we have kingfishers, jays, nuthatches, mountain chickadees, robins, rock doves, finches along with hummingbirds, ravens, and woodpeckers. The other evening, I saw a pure white dove. I noticed it out of the corner of my eye due to its graceful fluttery landing on the bird feeder. It was so pretty. Yesterday morning, I saw a red wing black bird. Beautiful. Of course I was without my phone but I doubt if I could have taken it's picture.

That's just the back yard - we have feeders and birds in the front as well.

Roses are budding.

I haven't planted anything yet but I plan to soon. I'm a morning "gardening person" Soon BSF will be over and that will give me an extra day. I do my grocery shopping on Friday mornings.

I didn't know I had white Irises

I've been a bit perturbed. I ordered a research book on Scott County and its role in the Civil War. It mentions many people in my family, so I was excited about getting it. I ordered through Barnes and Noble online - they shipped it to UPS, and then UPS shipped it to USPS.

No one knows where it is. UPS and USPS say it's not them. Barnes and Noble told me to talk to the carriers. Everyone passes the buck. Meanwhile, I don't have my book.

When I track it, it says,

It's On It's Way!

Call me anxious, but I think I am going to order the book again—this time, skip the free delivery and pay for it. It will come faster. Then, I will either report the first one as missing or get a refund for the first one.

I WANT THAT BOOK, BAD!

More of the blue/purple are coming in...

I guess Foodie is leaving for his backpacking snowshoeing trip this Friday. The weather in the mountains where he is going will be clear - down to the mid 40's at night and mid 60's in the day.

Time to grill some burgers!

Have a great evening

  1. Your Iris are gorgeous! So sorry about the book. Maybe you should order it from somewhere else, like Amazon? How wonderful to be surrounded by birds and birdsong! I always love hearing it here.

  2. love the white iris and oh no on the lost book.. that happened to me once and it was a faucet that was to be installed by a plumber. I had to go to home Depot the day before and buy one to get it installed and then the battle began to get my money back from the lost one. good luck

  3. The bird sounds are so peaceful. You'll have roses before long too!
I've had that happen with packages. It's so frustrating! Hope it shows up soon!

  4. I often wonder why Amazon ships things the way they do. Shipments from the same order may arrive via three different delivery services which makes not sense to me at all. Hope you get your book soon!

  5. We have a birdfeeder in our front yard that attracts all sorts of birds. My favorites are the brown headed cow birds because the noise they make sounds like a drop of water! We also get finches, chickadees, red wings blackbirds, nut hatches and occasional cardinal or blue jay! I love it!

  6. Dearest Debby,
When I feed the birds after I've fed the 3 kitties, we then can observe them feasting during breakfast time. Our kitchen bay window shows all the feeders and we enjoy that very much.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  9. aaahhh, thank you! What beautiful photos of the roses. They are just the right red too. That one beginning to bud should be in a magazine! You've got many of the same birds we have here. I've been seeing lots of Robins on my lawn lately. You saw a white Dove! I believe that is extra special! I only saw one, and it came right in front of my car when I moved to So Cal, and me and Jess were driving on the freeway. It hovered around my car for a few moments before flying away. Your time spent listening to the birds in the morning sounds nice. Loved this post today, Debby, and appreciate the red rose so much.

  10. I'm sorry you're getting the run around and to hear that Barnes isn't interested in helping. I had stuff not not and then another time stuff show - both from Target. I called and both times, Target took care of the issue. Target online (and instore), also sells books and runs deals there too, if you're interested in giving them ago. Then there's Abesbooks where I find rare stuff. PS: I think I commented already on this and might be in spam though I'm not sure. Blogger sticks me in spam a lot. I dunno why?

  11. At my old house I had every color of the rainbow in irises. I loved them all. I also had many different colored lilacs with a yellow and pink being unusual colors. Hope you get your book soon. Sucks that you have to do the leg work in finding out where it is. Janice
