HAPPY FRIDAY!

We have tomatoes coming out of our you-know-what - so I will be making a marinara sauce tomorrow. I'm eating tomato sandwiches, BLT and a lot of salad. Sometimes I just grab a smaller tomato and eat it like an apple. Very juicy. No one wants them - they have their own tomatoes. Times like this I do wish I could can - or had a big freezer to make up some sauce.

I totally understand how this droopy sunflower felt the last few days. We had humidity due to some monsoon moisture coming up from the Gulf of California. I don't know how you all deal with it. As soon as I would go outside, the sweat would bead up on my upper lip, behind my neck, and between my boobs! I was clammy all day.

SAD NEWS

Private Claude McCart

I stayed inside and worked on my family tree. I did solve the mystery of my Grandma's youngest brother -

I went on to Newspapers.com and looked him up and I was stunned. The story going around was partly true. He was murdered on Jan 7, 1917. but not in Oklahoma but in Leavenworth, Kansas.  It was not on a Reservation and it was not in 1918. He must have re-enlisted because he was a prison guard or provost at the United States Disciplinary Barracks at the US Penitentiary in Leavenworth. He was 23. There were many articles about the murder, the trial, and sentencing. The 2 murderers received 5 years for 2nd-degree murder.

He was off duty - with friends, in a seedy part of town. He was beaten to death with a blackjack - they crushed his skull. One article talks about his mates at the Barracks where he was posted wanting revenge and they had to get the 2 suspects out of town.

After a couple of days of thought and prayer, we decided to purchase a new sofa and loveseat that will be delivered on Monday. I'm the cheapscape tightwad.  I knew our sofas were getting old - uncomfortable, giving us backaches.  You know the kind, that swallows you up after a while. My husband has been bugging me for at least a year - so I finally gave in. It will be nice but I always get buyer's remorse and wonder if this is the right time. It's done. Now I just have to deal with it and I will grow to like it.

I don't take photos of my sofa - but here it is
YES, I allow my pets to be on the furniture and our bed. To us, they are family.

I loved my other sofa and loveseat. It just got old and worn out.

Tonight we're going to Olive Garden to spend our 3, $10 gift cards and that will lower our overall cost for a nice dinner.

So that's about it. The temps are cooling down - we're at 92 right now and that is nice.

Hope you all have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

  1. Yes, clammy is definitely how we feel in high humidity! Sometimes I just take a wet washcloth and run it on my arms and legs to get the sticky off for a minute! Nice to get new furniture even if it does cost a fortune! I feel like you and have buyer's remorse at first!

  3. We had 92 today and high humidity! When we had a dog he had his own couch for years, then I got new furniture and just put covers on them:) Hope you enjoy your new furniture!

    1. I might get covers. My dog has a big pillow on the floor - she prefers to be near us. So the cat uses the dog pillow.

  4. How awful about the murder of your grandmothers brother back then.
It is hard to imagine everyone in such HOT weather when we continue to have pleasant summer days.
We haven't been out to eat in such a long time. We got so used to cooking at home when we couldn't go out to eat that we just don't go out anymore. All the meals I missed eating out I found recipes of the same stuff on line and realized we liked our own food better!
I always did like Olive Gardens bread sticks and salad.

  5. That is terrible what happened to your grandma's brother. I'm sorry to hear that. I like the color of your old sofa. Looks comfy too, and your dog seems to be content sitting there. But we always know when it's time for a new one, and I hope your new one suits you. Those sunflower photos are really pretty. Even when drooping, they are lovely.
