Customer Service

"All representatives are assisting other customers.

Please continue to hold."

Does anyone REALLY believe this anymore?  How come I am never the "customer" being assisted?  I don’t believe they are even there. They’re all at home.

Earlier this afternoon I was waiting on the phone for a banking representative to close an account we no longer use. How easy it used to be. You could walk right in and close the account.  Now (due to Covid) you have to make an appointment.

They don't like it when you close an account so they make you wait (hoping you’ll give up) or they hide the information from you on their website. They want you to talk to someone, so they can talk you out of it only.  Yet no one answers when you call. I currently have $4.00 in the account and if I don't close it, they will charge me a service fee and I will be overdrawn.

I finally hung up - and had to make an appointment online. Every date I clicked  on, it came up that no one was available. Finally, I managed to get a Thursday morning appointment.

All I want to do is close the dang account.

  2. I have about $400 in a credit union account and I have to go in person to close it. It's a 30 minute drive from me. A royal pain in the you-know-what. At least I don't need an appointment.

    1. At least the credit union isn't charging you a service fee or you would be taking that 30 minute drive. I left enough in to take care of the monthly charge. It's BOA - our credit union is through the Coast Guard. I really dislike BOA anyway. We had it for a old loan that we paid off.

  3. If you wrote a check for $4 to "CLOSING MY CCOUNT FOR CASH" I think you would be covered until they got around to making it official at a time of you convivence. It would at least get their attention. Can you not even got to a cashier due to Covid? We have better access in Jersey.

  4. How awful! It's not like that here or anywhere in the SouthEast. We're all wide open. Just go inside, do whatever, and you're done. I wish all this nonsense would stop for ya.
    Blessings. xx

    1. Normally it wouldn't even be an issue since I never go into the bank - Our income is direct deposited and we use our debit cards. We rarely write checks. It's just when I need to close it that I have to go in which in a way seems silly since they are by appointment only, yet they are still going to have to see me in person.

Just dumb. I like the way Sweden's Anders Tegnell handled it. It was rough for a while but they say, we're not going to eradicate it - instead we learn to live with it. - accept it like we do the flu. Then we can get on with our lives. Of course I am partial to Sweden....

  6. It is very frustrating! And you can never call without getting put on hold, and listening to a recording that says "We appreciate you patience. We are assisting other callers and will be with you as soon as possible". I've been know to say - "I am not patient, but you are holding me hostage!"

  7. Ouch, we are lucky here in that we can go in the bank, masked and social distanced of course. You reminded me that I need to check and see if our financial person did what we asked today.

    God bless.

    1. At other banks we can - its this [particular bank. It's Bank Of America and they take their marching orders from someone higher up the food chain. One reason we are leaving. I like local banks and credit unions. They tend to march to a different drummer.
