The Munsters, chicken, and other stuff.

Just a quick photo of the Munsters  Hawthorne Village the husband put up that belonged to my sister. I'm not done yet - He loves the Munsters - I wanted to sell it.  Each little house is anywhere from $25-35 on eBay.

I will take some better photos once I get it the way I want it. The cords drive me crazy.

I'm a little perturbed with the husband. I went to Costco yesterday and bought an OMG-sized package of fresh chicken breasts. This morning, he comes in, holding the package - he had forgotten to put them in the freezer so they say out in the car all night. Fortunately, it was cold in the garage. I think they will be fine - We will know tonight - I placed 2 of them in the crockpot. They smelled fine but poultry can be tricky. I told him if they are all bad, he has to repay me out of his account.
He did feel awful about it - GOOD.

So the husband agrees that we really don't need the gardeners now. However, he made a verbal agreement with them through the end of November which he will honor.

Rain and cold weather are here and in our forecast for the next few days. I am totally loving it. It's like I now can cook food that I don't cook in the summer. Like tonight, chicken and dumplings - later meatloaf.

Sara my daughter-in-law texted me last night, saying she wants to cook Thanksgiving dinner. I'm down with that! The only bad thing is the husband still has to go to work and will not be able to join us. (That's what happens when you have a part-time job when you are retired) I plan to make our own Thanksgiving meal for us on Wednesday before. You can't get all worked up over stuff like that. My mom used to put a lot of pressure on my sister and me for the holidays. She took it as a personal insult and it caused a lot of problems. I don't do that with my kids. I also don't have to be the one to cook every year and now that I have a daughter-in-law, we can switch back and forth. My mom refused to come to my house for the holidays. It was always a given that we were to pack up our babies and drive 4 hours to spend the holidays. My ex-husband worked at SFO and he worked the holidays - Double and Triple time was hard to give up when you have 3 little ones. My folks just refused to understand. I was always in the dog house with my mom.

Next Tuesday is my first cataract surgery on my right eye. I am all set to go and can't wait to be able to have clearer vision again.

That's it for me. I hope you all have a great day and get everything you want to do accomplished.

  1. Love the village. Unfortunately, I got rid of all my Halloween decorations several years ago, not imagining I would ever have grandchildren. I've always cooked the holiday meals - since 1973. I am truly tired of it. Don't mind just my kids, but I always have my sister's family too.

  2. What a spooky village. I love it.

Thanksgiving always has us packing up and going to either my parents or Harvey's parents. We would go one place one year, then Christmas was at the others and so on for all the holidays. It was tough some years. Especially when the children were young.

    God bless.

  3. We generally do Thanksgiving the Sunday before Thanksgiving...there are no rules.

  4. The village is fun, but I'm with you - you could make some good money by selling it!
I hope the chicken was ok!
I've always had to work holidays and my MIL was not very good about it. We try to be very understanding with our kids. As long as we can get together, that's what matters.

  5. Your attitude about how to get through the holidays is GREAT! I've been pondering lately how helpful it is to be observant and to learn from what we see. You have clearly done that in seeing how attitudes affect people and then made your own choices to make things better.

Cords. They make me nuts, too. I hide them as best I can but sometimes it's just not possible.

    Hope your chicken is fine.
I think my mom was relived when we didn't go there for the holidays!!!

  7. My husband would volunteer to work on Thanksgiving's when he was a BellSouth (now AT&T) employee. It was extra money, time & a half, and I told him to never turn that down. We would celebrate when he got home. No biggy.
I watched the Munster's also but really enjoyed the Aadams Family more. Catchy tune too.
I know you'll feel better when all these surgeries are over and done with. Keep us posted when convenient and lots of prayers for a quick recovery.
    Blessings. xx
