0.67 inch of rain. We'll take it.

The husband brought me back some chocolate raisins which are to die for.

I eat a few each day - as a treat.

It lightly rained on and off all day yesterday. Nothing really to write home about but it is moisture. At this time we do not need a downpouring or we'd be in trouble with mudslides and flooding.

The forecast has us with 2 more days of impending rain - and then back up to sunny and warm. And god-forbid a lot more humid than we are used to.

Everything looks so green though - the earth just welcomed the raindrops - and thanked us all with their display of green splendor. Amazing how you can water and water and it takes a lot to be green - yet let it rain, even if it is only 0.67 of an inch and every living plant starts greening.

We've had a lot of smoke due to nearby forest fires. The fresh outside air's sweet fragrance is intoxicating.

I remember when I was a child, watching like Bonanza or the Big Valley - and they would be in a drought and then they would get a downpour of heavy rain and the people would jump up and down declaring that the drought was over.

Well, it isn't that way - I don't know if it ever was. It takes many inches of rain to fill our reservoirs and watersheds - Our annual rainfall is about 33 inches yearly. We have a long way to go -

I was supposed to do a pot roast yesterday but didn't get it in the oven soon enough - so that is what we're having tonight. It smells so good.

I started the Fall women's Bible study at my church last Tuesday. When we broke up into our smaller study groups, and everyone introduced themselves, every one of them (12 of us) except a younger gal who is pregnant and myself, was a widow. These are not old women. Mixed ages.  That was quite shocking to me.

I am blessed to still have my husband. I know I don't say it often enough as I should.  I am grateful for him and while I can be very independent and enjoy my alone time, there were times, this past week when I missed his presence. I made sure, once he came home to let him know that I did miss him. He knows how I am, and that he can go away for a few days rest assured that I am fine and content - definitely not needy; but I am sure it still is nice for him to know, that he was still missed.

Autumn Rain

by David Herbert Lawrence
The plane leaves
fall black and wet
on the lawn;

The cloud sheaves
in heaven's fields set
droop and are drawn

in falling seeds of rain;
the seed of heaven
on my face

falling--I hear again
like echoes even
that softly pace

Heaven's muffled floor,
the winds that tread
out all the grain

of tears, the store
harvested
in the sheaves of pain

caught up aloft:
the sheaves of dead
men that are slain

now winnowed soft
on the floor of heaven;
manna invisible

of all the pain
here to us given;
finely divisible
falling as rain.

  1. That was a nice rain for you!
    I like those chocolate covered raisins too.
    Hope that you enjoy that study. Sad that so many are widows.

  2. I have been enjoying the rolling thunder and rain this afternoon and evening. Had one flash of thunder that lit up my living room!. Hoping all the fire areas are getting this rain as well.

    1. Oh yes, the rain was heavier in and around the fires.

  3. That is kind of frightening about so many widows! What a nice poem! Great that the rain cleared the smoke from the fires!

    1. Yes it is and it bothers me. Some are more recent than others.

  4. I have never had chocolate raisins! How unusual to have that many widows in a small group. It is pouring here this morning which means I will have to drag Scruffy out in the rain to do his bizness. He will roll in the snow but give him a rain puddle and you would think it was a raging fire the way he avoids it. lol. The poem at the end is lovely. xo Diana

    1. My dog is the same way. A light rain she is fine but wind and rain, we have to push her outside to go potty. She loves snow and she loves to swim so I don't get it.

  8. Dearest Debby,
    Happy you got some refreshing rain!
    You only get 12" less rain annually than we get here.
    Our August was a wet monsoon month... we grew so tired of it.
    Now it is perfectly sunny!
    True, we can be very glad to have our husbands still with us—it is not a GIVEN thing that will last...
    Both of us enjoyed a long and sunny bike ride on Sunday, we did our 25.5 mi ride. Last year when Pieter ran out of battery power, I had to pedal his heavy bike (same weight as mine...) home without any power, in 1st gear—over 10 mi of hill after hill. Sunday I could not believe I managed doing that! But I remember that I was feeling so spent... it drained my energy.
    Today I uploaded the 3rd subtitles on our Technology Transfer Seminar videos. What a mega task of 16 pages text. But it is DONE!
    Feels good and yesterday our airco quit working so around noon we had that repaired.
    Always some surprises coming our way!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Oh boy. Yes surprises always show up. Yesterday our van had a dead battery. Jumped it and it still didn't work so had to buy a battery.

  9. Nice you got some rain! It's thundering and lightening outside as I sit here right now! I hope you keep getting gentle rains and not downpours! My husband loves chocolate covered raisins! I get them for him at Trader Joes. I prefer chocolate covered almonds myself! I too am grateful to still have my husband after 45 years. XO

  10. We got quite a bit of rain Monday night. It made me happy to see it fall again. We're supposed to get more. That's nice of your husband to bring you home some chocolate covered raisins! They look so good. But I don't think I could eat just a few each day. ; ) That is sad to hear about all those widows in your group. It's good that you are taking a Bible Study class. You can teach me things. : )
