Searching for the right LOOK

This morning I went out to actually look and find what has been in my mind for the last few days...

After further investigation, I have ruled out the wood shingles due to the toxic glue fumes and the tile.

Mainly because I don't want this to be some big project that costs me a lot of money. I have to keep remembering why I like to do this - to save a buck or two. Yes, I like to be creative and if I was going to do this and make some money off of it - I would spring for the expense - and then sell it.

I figured out, by looking at the rock tiles or any other type of tile that not only would I have to get grout but also cut the tiles. With the rocks I'd have to get extras to peel off the rocks so I could grout them on - We do not have a special tile saw. My husband does not want to make a special purchase for one or even rent one.

The idea was a good one -

Now, these tiles are about 1 1/2 inches - and can be easily separated.
They have mesh backing.

I liked them but wasn't keen on the price

They might be too busy.

$16 a sheet - I'd need 2-3 sheets.

My search continued...

Half logs -

When I found these logs - I fell in love! The price? Not so much.

At $10.99 each - I'd need a few to cover 2 lamps.  This would cost me around $100 and not including the lamp shades.  With that price I could order two of that pretty lamp I posted a couple of days ago.

Still love the logs - I'm wondering about a project where I could use these.

Maybe a rustic picture frame?

Then I went to Jo-Ann's Fabrics -

I was looking for their rolls of fake leather and suede.

Have you priced specialty fabrics?

And then...

I finally found what will work. Not my first or second or third choice - but it will work and I think it will look nice.

I'm going to keep you in suspense.  -  So far I have only spent $5. (I do have to purchase the new lamp shades and that is about $30 each.)

We dug around looking at the spare wood, and hardware we have here - I do like rustic...

The whole idea for me is to do something creatively WITHIN my budget. The whole idea of repurposing or re-doing an item is to keep costs low. To save money.

Talked with Navy - he had a good night last night and slept well. He still has nerve pain but says it comes and goes and that he is used to the pain and will not call the clinic for pain meds.

So, that is about it - We had a couple of arson fires yesterday around 7pm. One was at our city park - and then once they got that down, another one popped up - they tend to do that. Get the fire crew to one spot and start another fire on the opposite side of town.

Both fires were put down fast.

  3. Dearest Debby,
Hoping that your son will soon find relief from the nasty shingles.
My Mom went through it and I remember too well how that went.
As for your project, it is always the most difficult part to find materials to work with, within budget and way of handling.
Anxious to see how things turn out.
    Hugs,
    Mariette
