One good eye deserves another

My cataract surgery went well on my right eye. The difference is striking. My vision through the bad eye looks yellowish and the good eye is clear and bright. On my follow-up yesterday I was able to read the tiniest print. I got the monofocal lens for close-up vision rather than distance. It's hard to explain but when I cannot see up close it feels like claustrophobia. I'm not bothered if I have to wear eyeglasses to drive or watch TV. I absolutely could never get used to reading glasses. Now I will be able to crochet; something I haven't been able to comfortably do in ages. As well as a small detail in painting and just reading a good book. I still prefer to read a book rather than audio or on a tablet.

Nov 9 for the left eye.

Easy Peasy! No pain whatsoever. The procedure took less than 10 minutes. Really I can't even call it surgery. I just have to wear a shield over my eye to bed for a few more days.

  2. Amazing what they can do. I remember it was like seeing real vivid colors for the first time. I had to do eye drops for a week, that was the only unpleasant thing I remember. I can now see well enough to drive and watch tv, but glasses still makes that more comfortable. Reading is east except for real small print. The result is I don't always need glasses, so I never had them when I needed them. I fixed that with multiple pairs of readers and TV glasses on every floor and in every car. I think your decision for excellent up close sight was better than mine.

    1. Yeah I almost went with the long distance and then I heard some people were disappointed that they could not see close up. That freaked me out.

  3. Congrats to you, Debby, on the successful surgery. Yes, it was easy and I had both eyes done a couple of years ago. I got the standard long distance procedure, which was fully covered by Medicare and unfortunately is the only one that is covered. I previously wore glasses for distance and the ability to drive without them was as you said, amazing. Of course, close up is another issue and so I do have reading glasses in every room ( like many other folks). But There’s another solution as well, I can use a single have contact lens in my left eye only for when I am out and about, at the gym, etc, and don’t sant to both with reading glasses.
Thanks for the recent visit and comment on my blog, muchnappreciated.

    1. Yeah I got the monofocal lens for close up - that too is covered by Medicare. I was not about to pay for the others lens that can run you now $3000 per eye. No way!

  5. So glad to read the surgery went well and you got such excellent results. It has to feel so much better... I have reading glasses and a pair of bifocals but I can't wear them. I don't know if the prescription is off or what but they make my eye site nuts...So glad to read about how the surgery went so if I have to get it I won't be so freaked about it. Thanks for sharing that bit. Enjoy your newfound eyesite! :)

  6. Praise God you're OK. Isn't that wonderful!? After my two it was amazing how well I could see again. It happened so gradually, I didn't even know my vision was poor.
Thanks for the update. Still praying for quick healing and everything goes well.
    Blessings. xx

  7. I am so glad that all went well. I have a small cataract in one eye and so far do not need any surgery. Hearing about how successful yours was makes me a bit more settled if I need it down the road.

    God bless.

    1. They do come on fast - so keep an "eye" out if it should get worse.

  9. Glad to hear your eye surgery went so well for you. My dad had it done about 20 years ago and at age 86 he is still reading with out glasses.

  10. Given that I'm nervous about any kind of surgery, it's good to know so many people have had very successful cataract surgery. I don't have cataracts right now, but if I do, I'll be more confident about getting them removed.
