Not fun being sick

It’s been 2 weeks and I’m still struggling with Covid symptoms. I’ve never been so sick. It actually scares me to think if perhaps I had not gotten the vaccines, would I have died?

I’ve lost so much weight - my eyes are sunk in my head - I look like death warmed over. But the good news I am feeling better. It might be awhile till I am in full swing again.

I also fell and gashed in my chin - big scab and bruising. I’m still not eating much - I have no sense of taste or smell. Or if I do taste, things are sugar sweet or horribly salty.

All my physical therapy has been delayed until I am feeling better.

I’m so thankful for my sweet daughter-in-law who gave advice and was a support for my husband who was worried sick about me. Sara works the Covid ICU.

I guess no one will ever know how they’re body will react. I had no idea I would have gotten as sick as I did. As a Childcare Provider for 30 years I had always been blessed with immunities. But this Covid is a crap shoot.

I will say that I’m disappointed in friends who had to bring in politics - or assuming I was not vaccinated or the ones who I could tell were pleased I had gotten sick and had the vaccine. With friends like that, who freaking needs them. Everything is judged - and if it doesn’t fit their agenda (and believe me, everyone has one until they almost die from it) you are shamed.

I’m thoroughly disgusted with humanity. What kind of world do we live in?  Granted I’m focusing on just a few- everyone else has been caring and compassionate and without any agenda. I really thank them for that!

  1. It is a political virus; if you get it you must be a rule ignoring Republican or a non rule following Republican gave it to you. Not sure who to blame if you are an Independent.

Glad to hear you are recovering.

I wonder if you had the Delta not the less lethal Omicron. I've read the Omicron does not effect taste or smell.

    1. I’m wondering that too, of course there’s no way of knowing if it was Delta.

  2. My hubby and I just had it too. Thankfully I don't think it was as bad as what you had, but we stayed home almost 3 full weeks. We are finally out and about, but still have a little residual sinus/cough issue, but not bad. Thank the Lord. And yes, we were vaccinated. We were reluctant to tell anyone we were positive because the first thing they ask is "were you vaccinated?" Yes, there are mixed reactions like you said. It is terrible that this has become so politicized. I am just so thankful we are getting well and that God spared us the really really bad cases. I am glad you are getting better too, and I pray you will continue to get stronger each day. God bless you dear friend.

  4. I'm glad to hear you're in your recovery. It sounds like your DIL was a great help and support.

And you're correct, as we're going through all this, we're certainly learning who and what our friends are. Take care!

  5. I'm sorry you've been so sick. I had it last Spring and was very sick too. It's just crazy how political this virus has become.

  6. Sorry to hear this virus is lasting so long with you. As you said unless you get it you do not know how it will affect you. That is one of the reasons I chose to get the vaccine. I had a couple of co-workers (both close in age and general health) get it back in the fall of 2020 before the vaccine was available, one was very ill for two months and at one point thought she may die, the other had what would be a mile flu and she was pregnant at the time. Hoping you are feeling better as each day passes.

  7. Oh Debby, I'm so sorry you got the virus, that's terrible, and that you've been so sick. I do hope you feel better soon. I've been thinking about the same thing lately with what you said, "everything is judged." It's just so inhumane. I don't know if it will help any, but whenever I get colds or flus, I always take garlic tablets, and it seems to shorten the sickness. Please feel better, and I'm thinking of you today with pleasant thoughts.

    1. I've heard of the garlic tablets before. May have to re-think that for the future.

  8. Oh my gosh I hope you get to feeling better soon. I'm sure it's hard to eat when you can't taste anything! Maybe some protein shakes will help? Yes some people get COVID and hardly get a symptom. Who knows? Take care!

  9. I am sorry you have had it so bad. At the garage where I get my car serviced, they had it. And for the most part, all of them was immunized. One of their sons had survived cancer and he just wasn't afraid of Covid, no vaccine. Fortunately he did not have a bad case. But his dad said it was the worst sick he had ever had. So you are not alone. And for all those commenters, they are idiots. People have got a right to have their own opinions and healthcare decisions. We are all doing the best we can. I'm immunized. But you know, I have decided what people choose is their own business. I do not care. But I would not wish Covid on anyone.

I was so sick I started praying God would take me. I was out of it! I never want to go through that again.
