This and That

A waterlogged California Poppy

We haven't had rain for such a long time, that while I am thankful for this blessing,  I am feeling couped up and not used to it. I need some Vitamin D. We've had some heavy winds and heavy rain. When walking across the lawn, it's squish squish squish.

The poppy bushes are spreading and are getting big. They love this type of weather. Just in time for a beautiful spring show.

Some native flowers are loving the moisture.

FORGETFULNESS

Tomorrow I go to my doctor for my annual prescription refills. Then I will go to the store after to pick up what grocery items, I should have included. This time I remembered my list - I just forgot to add the items that I had forgotten.

Last night I made Beef Broccoli and somewhere along the line I messed up -
I didn't care for it but my husband still ate it.
I have to start writing what is in my mind down - the sauce was off. Not enough ginger and too much of something else. There are some standbys, I just never had a "recipe" for. I just knew...I'm thinking I can't do that anymore.

Very disappointing. It's one of my favorites.

I am still waiting to hear back from CASA - to volunteer as a Court Appointed Special Advocate - I signed up last month and am still waiting for someone to call me. I feel I'd be a natural after 30 years of teaching, raising, and advocating for other people's children as an early childcare professional and then a Nanny.

If it happens, then it will happen. If it doesn't, then it doesn't.

I believe a while ago, when I mentioned this, there were a couple of bloggers who have done this before...

Nicotiana obtusifolia

Desert Tobacco is popping up all over my saturated yard. Even in some flower pots. A California native that has a white flower.

I forgot to mention that Foodie, was roughhousing with some of his buddies and injured his ribs. No doubt alcohol was involved. On Christmas Eve he was in pain but he won't go to the doctor. Why is it some men are this way?  He says he is fine but he still has pain. I believe it happened a week or two before Christmas. I guess it takes a while to heal bruised ribs.

Navy is the same way - he just doesn't like going to the doctor. Maybe that is why he married a nurse!

That's it for me on this blustery afternoon.

  1. Dearest Debby,
Well, all the plants, shrubs and trees will soak up the abundant water and do well on it for a long time to come—they have no choice!
Men are that way, at least the ones I know... they want to tough it out.
Good luck with your CASA sign up but keep in mind that administrative things might be way behind due to the holidays. Not everybody works like you to finish a project!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  2. I'm sorry your son hurt his ribs. I hope they heal nicely and quickly. The poppies are going to be so pretty this Spring. We had another snowfall today, and it was a pretty big one. I barely made it to the store driving the highway. Good for you for making beef broccoli, even if it didn't turn out the way you wanted. ; )

    1. We can see the snow on the mountains around us - when it is clear enough to see. We can tell its snowing by the cloud cover. The beef broccoli was awful -

  4. I have been away this past weekend for a long weekend trip, and am now trying to get caught up with people. I have wondered about you up in the pacific NW and that storm, and am happy to hear you are okay and not underwater. The flowers and plants hopefully will thrive as a result of the much needed rain in your area. My prayers are with those on the coast who have not fared so well. Sorry your son has bruised his ribs. I do believe they do take a while to heal, so I pray he will be better soon, but if not, he should definitely get it checked. Yeah, I know, men, especially younger men, don't like to go to Doctors. That seems to be a universal thing. Regarding your beef and broccoli dish, I am sorry it didn't turn out so great. I am not a big fan of beef and broccoli together anyway, so I wouldn't be a good judge! LOL. I love beef, and I love broccoli, just not together! LOL. Have a blessed and beautiful day my friend. We just got back from being with your old friend Joy. She looks wonderful and is amazing to be able to do all she does and keep going after the passing of her dear husband. I wish we had more time together to really visit, but it was a big gathering and she was busy being the hostess. She may be down here in FL. for a few days and we might be able to get together again if she comes to see our son's store. She would be a good resource person for their business. Take care my friend and stay warm and dry!

    1. Thank you for thinking of us but no need to worry - We don't live in a flood plain. It would have to be biblical and God promised so I'll take him at His Word.

  5. Well it seem all your plants are enjoying all the rain. :)
I never go to the doctors either!

    1. I don't know if I've ever seen a drowned plant because we only buy plants that do good in our terrain. So yeah, they are loving it and the word is, they are going to bloom and blosson, beautifully for me this Spring!

  6. I have heard that you are all getting soaked. Perhaps a good thing after the long drought that has been happening over the past years. Love that the wild flowers are loving the moisture.

    God bless.

    1. It's always a good thing but its the ground water that will take years. It was just about depleted this past summer.
