More from the Take a Plant - Leaf a Plant

These "Leaf-a-Plant" stands are popping up all over town and the surrounding communities.

I have some pots and yogurt containers that are good for new seedlings - that I want to donate. I also plan to start some plants with seeds so I have something to give back.

Gardening is a good way to meet others - without discussing other things that divide - instead, we choose to stick to gardening, gardening, and more gardening.

I have some huge aloe vera plants that I could donate. I have to get them together and then take an inventory of what I plan to give away.

I then will go to each stand - and see what I can get in return - there is some good stuff.

Lavender is now blooming and I have some to cut - if you cut it and place it on the ground, as they dry up, the seeds will germinate and you'll have lavender. That's the easy way or you can root it or use a starter. I take the easy way and so far it has worked for me.

I love how generous people are -

Just wait until everybody starts harvesting their fruits and vegetables.

I want to do this in front of my house but I dare not suggest it since the unpainted lending book library still sits on my workbench - yet to be detailed. I don't know what is with me? I get distracted by everything else.

Okay, I will tentatively say I will have it done by the end of June.

There I said it. Maybe I will get the ball rolling so I can have a plant stand.

It's Monday afternoon - Did some work in the backyard - picked up a couple of things at the store and bought some soil and a red rose bush that I will plant tomorrow. Just laying low for the most part - it's been in the high 90s and humid which is not normal for here. It makes me sleepy.

Are you seeing any of these TAPLAP  (Take a Plant, Leaf a Plant) stands in your areas?

"The gardener does not love to talk.
He makes me keep the gravel walk;
And when he puts his tools away,
He locks the door and takes the key."

Robert Louis Stevenson - The Gardener 1885.

  1. Not yet but my Garden Club does a plant exchange or two every year. I may actually have something to trade this fall for a change.

We just started seeing those Little Library set ups here this year.

    God bless.

  2. That's a neat idea. And your aloe plants would be great to donate. Jess has an aloe plant in her back yard, and I love it. I've never seen the "take a plant, leaf a plant" stand before in my area. I look forward to seeing the little library project when you start it. : )

  5. I have never heard of this before...and now I wonder if it exists here anywhere. What a nice idea!! I don't have any plants to share...mine are few and far between, and my butterfly garden is overrun with weeds. I can't do any weeding with my arm/shoulder the way it is. Everytime I try it I end up hurting for a while. Plus the bluebird house is right above the garden, and they are nesting again, so I can't get too close. Next year maybe I will move the birdhouse away from the garden so I can take better care of it. This is the second nesting for that house...which has covered the whole spring and will take up a good chunk of summer. But I do love watching the bluebirds, so it's worth it. Let us know what you end up doing, and especially about the library project. I heard someone in our area was doing that. My question is, how can you be sure people won't put "inappropriate" books in there? I would love to see it be for children's books or good wholesome reading, but I just don't know how one could control what goes in there? I've never had any experience with these little book houses. I'd be curious to hear how they work. Take care and enjoy your summer. Yes, it is getting hot and humid here too, but it is Florida and it is June, so that's to be expected. Hurricane season has started... Take care my friend across the continent!!

  6. I love the plant exchange idea. If I lived somewhere where people passed by I would do this.

  7. I like the aloe vera plant. It's been years since I've had one. My pedicure friend has one by chair I sit on. I have enough plants and asked my hubby to put 2 plants in the ground. I think I need to quit buying more plants even though they are lovely.
