Autumn in the front yard

We got some rain this morning - and then the rest of the afternoon has been partly sunny. It's not that cold - pleasant actually. Around 65 for a high.
The air smells so sweet.

The sweet gum tree is starting to change colors and leaves are falling. We have a lot of finches this year. We feed our birds year-round. We have 2 different types of woodpeckers, a lot of rock doves, blue jays, big ravens, and hummingbirds. Those are the main ones that visit us daily. And then we have some just passing through.

Years ago, when I lived in San Mateo - We had a lot of trees from my yard as well as my neighbors, that would blow into my yard. I'd get my 3 sons to go out and bag them up - to save them for Halloween night. The trick-or-treaters loved to stomp over those huge piles of crispy autumn leaves. It was a fun tradition I used to do with my boys - gathering the leaves.

My mini roses always do better in the Fall and Winter.

The summer is just too HOT for them to thrive. So they are blooming now and are so pretty. These belonged to my Mom. My dad planted them for her. That's what is nice about living in my parent's home. I have these little memory landmarks.

My potted Mums are blooming - a couple of weeks ago I only had 2 blooms.

I don't remember what these are called. They are a vining plant that is drought resistant and they seem to bloom year-round. They look like morning glory but they are teeny tiny. A very hardy plant.

  1. Dearest Debby,
It sure has been very pleasant these few November days.
We managed to finally get our trees cut down and others trimmed.
Since April we'd tried to have our yard dry enough for bringing in the heavy equipment.
    So happy it is done.
Now we can put back the three bird feeders up and also the bird baths, so our feathered friends will have their routine back.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. And our feathered friends do have their routines when you watch them all the time. They are a part of my routine as well.

    1. It is nice and really did help in my grief. We did change things up as you would any new home but its the garden and yards and things my dad did around the house that is special.

  3. Your flowers are beautiful. We've had a few days of frost so the flowers around here are pretty much gone till next year.

    1. We get frost here too; not a lot but once that happens, it's the same.

  4. Wow, your flowers are still going strong in Fall. My mini roses are now starting to wither away.
as it's been very cold here already, 38 degrees the other morning. I hear we are in for a lot of snow this Winter, but we'll have to see. That is wonderful that your sons raked all your leaves in the front yard so the little ones could run through them. I bet they loved that. That purple flower is sooooo pretty. And I love those Mums - perfect for Fall.
