A little bit of this - A little bit of that!

Spring is in the air - I can smell it.

Can you smell spring when your area starts to change?

An Evening walk,  up to the wilderness area by us last night was pleasant.

It is still cold in the mornings - in the 40s and if there is no sun, it's cold. Spring, like Fall, are fickle seasons due to transitioning from one season to another. That's why one week we're in the 70s and the next week, we have rain and it's cold. It's still winter which means we're still in our rainy season.

Tomorrow we're supposed to drop down into the 50s and have rain.

I received this in my email - I like to upload photos of places around here - and these photos I uploaded about an area the city opened up about 4 months ago. I was surprised, that they are getting a lot of exposure.

Here's my post about the area.

It's that time of year again -  mostly for getting prepared for "that time of year" which will be here before we know it.

I hope and pray we don't have any fires this summer but being prepared helps.

Fortunately, in the 15 years of living here, we have not had a mandatory evacuation. When my folks lived here, they had one mandatory evacuation. We've come close a few times but I think we're okay. What I get concerned with is the wind. That can take out any housing area, even in the larger suburbs.

The thing to remember is, we have no control over that. At any time, a disaster can hit. But God tells us not to worry and while I can have a healthy concern, worry does nothing for me but give me ulcers!

Trust me, in my younger years I was a compulsive worrier and I had stomach issues due to obsessive worrying. After years of therapy, I finally get it. I have no control. I can only do what I can.

I hope to have it all completed by mid-March.

I used to love grocery shopping. Lately, I dread it. Eggs have gone down to around $8.00 a dozen. But other items are so high, that I stand there and question myself,

 "do we really need this?"

And then I put it back. Yogurt is high but my lactose intolerance is getting worse as I get older and yogurt doesn't bother my tummy.  I noticed at my store, the meat and poultry section was not as fully stocked as it used to be. Tomorrow I am going to go to the butcher - I want a chuck roast so I can cook it and shred it for my enchiladas. We will eat at least 2 nights and lunch on that meal.

I love pumpkin pie - and I did not get my fill, during the holidays. So I've been looking for canned pumpkin and nada. Today I got the last can of Libby's canned pumpkin. I had to dig for it. I want to make it tomorrow. Then I will be nicely satisfied till October.

That's it for me today. I hope your day is good.

Regards,

Debby

  1. I guess every area has its worries. We worry about hurricanes every summer and fall. And as I was reading your post, I thought about the fact that we are surrounded by forests (The Big Thicket and others) and yet, we never have fires. That's so interesting! It's very stressful to live in an area that is always on the verge of evacuation. We once got stuck in a 17 hour evacuation as we were fleeing from Hurricane Rita. It's so stressful. I hope you don't see fires for many years!

  2. How wonderful that your photos have been featured. Oh, the disaster preparedness lists...we have those for hurricane season here in Florida, which starts in June. But as dry as it has been we could have forest fires any time now. February has been known to have them. Praying we get some good rain soon. Our pond is drying up, but it seems to do so every winter and then comes back in the spring/summer. Eggs are still high here. We have greatly limited our use of them and are eating more cereal and toast and peanut butter for breakfast. Interesting about yogurt...I have the same issue and really enjoy my yogurt snack at night with granola and blueberries or strawberries, whatever I happen to have. Oh, I'd love to sample your enchiladas made with shredded chuck roast. The first time I ever had tacos they were made that way and I ate 10 of them! LOL. I've never done it that way as it seems like too much work so I just use ground beef, but the shredded beef would be so much better. Chuck roasts have just been SO expensive here that I rarely buy them anymore. I miss them. Oh, I have a big can of pumpkin that I never used at Thanksgiving because I got sick. My DIL made one instead, so I still have my can. Hubby would eat it anytime, so maybe I will surprise him someday. Okay, have a blessed and wonderful weekend. I enjoyed your post so much.

  3. Hi Debby~ The fires in California are scary! It's a worry here in Idaho as well...I hope they won't be as bad in 2023, I hear you about the groceries! Eggs here are a little over 7.00...way too high. I haven't noticed the shelves not being stocked, but I have noticed that there's not as much of a selection as there used to be.

  4. Dearest Debby,
No, worries are very negative for our own health!
Let's hope the winter into spring transition goes well and without any disasters.
Here we have the very same, yesterday it was 73.4°F and then some rain in the evening. Today it is somewhat sunny.
Our magnolia leaves are already below the tree, from rain and wind... Always so short lived—a few more days and it is over with.
Enjoy your pumpkin pie—it is one of the veggies I am not allowed to eat due to its high potassium.
Life is not easier at my stage of CKD.
As for the prices, that little what I'm allowed to eat, I usually don't care what the price is...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  6. Congratulations on the interest in your photographs. It is always nice to get a bit of recognition.
Yes, I can smell spring...when it arrives. There is a smell of moisture in the soil, the smell of rotting leaves and vegetation, and a freshness that is missing in the cold winter. It's a smell I look forward to.
Prices are high here too, but thankfully some prices are coming down, at least slightly.

  7. We worry about tornadoes in the Spring. Hopefully no fires will come near you. It seems there a lot lately out West each year. Pumpkin pier sounds wonderful! No Spring here yet. We had flurries here today and tonight. Janice

  8. I worry about blizzards during the winter, but I now know all I can do is prepare and leave it in the hands of God or Mother Nature. I sure hope you don't have a bad fire year.

    God bless.

  9. I always crave pumpkin pie, even after the holidays. It's just a good pie. And with whipped cream, even better. That's nice that you're making one. I do not like to go to the grocery store. I don't know when it came about, maybe I was going too much at one time, but I sometimes dread it. But then, I tell myself, "at least you have money to buy food," and off I go. ; )
